One of my favorite directors has to be this man. My vote is for The 'Burbs. Endlessly quotable and really funny, with Gremlins 2 at second, and Piranha at third.

I'm with Forrest here as Gremlins 2 is one of the funniest, most anarchic movies i've seen. Right up there with Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Fight Club and early Marx Brothers. Dante's movies of late have sorta gone to the kiddie side of things. Hopefully he'll pull out another great one like howling or burbs'.
By the way, has anyone heard of the alternate ending to the burbs' that the studio rejected for some reason?

I went with Piranha. There were a couple others on the list I liked, but in the end I'm a sucker for "when nature attacks" movies from the 70's & early 80's.

Matinee was a loving homage to William Castle and the gimmick films of the 60s.
I think it's the best because Dante was directing from the heart.

The 'burbs by far for me. It's one of my all-time favorite comedies. Bruce Dern steals the show BIG TIME. The scene when they go to the Klopek's for the first time, and he's being highly suspicious and rude gets me every time. It's one of the very few scenes in any movie that has me laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes every time I see it.
Had he not directed The 'burbs, it would have been The Howling because I also love that one.

I voted for Gremlins.
WAIT, people actually liked the Howling?!?!?!? I hate that turkey! It is so boring and stupid when my brother and I watched it he left after 15 minutes!

Gremlins. It's pretty much a dead heat between 1 and 2, but the "That's how I found out there was no Santa Claus" speech is one of the eeriest, meanest, things ever in a PG movie. I love it!
