Dr Strangelove, followed closely by Full Metal Jacket and the Shining
2001 is distant 4th...it is a great movie with what I think are STILL some of the greatest space scenes in cinema history but I am sorry , I think this movie is downright boring in parts
ACO.....a good movie but whatever...I just don't get the pedestal that this movie gets put on....I get the movie but if I were to watch a movie with message and have more fun watching it I would pick the original "Dawn of the Dead".....I know that is heresy to some but...well it is just one man's opinion
In all I would have to agree with Atari......Kubrick is a great filmmaker who sometimes came off as pretentious....Certainly worthy of being considered one of the greatest but certainly unworthy of being veritably deified as he seems to be in some circles of the industry.

Sparticus is incredible. As are all his films.
But I couldn't buy Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut. Sorry.

This is a very tough call. I love Lolita, The Shining, and Dr. Strangelove, but I voted for Full Metal Jacket. But all his films are great.

Ok, you suck for bringing back that stupid piano 'solo' in the middle of Eyes Wide Shut. Ach, what an awful movie.
As for the vote I was split on 2001 and FMJ, but went with spacey goodness.

It was difficult, but Dr. Strangelove is consistantly funny for me upon every viewing...

2001 is the best. The End. I thought you didn't like 2001... Huh? I always loved 2001.

No let's get this straight, it's me who hates the motion(less) picture 2001: A Space Odyssey.

This is a difficult one, it's kind of a process of elimination over REALLY trivial stuff.
Dr. Strangelove: brilliant, but too bad he couldn't go back and have Trumbull redo the Leper Colony effects.
Lolita: stunning first seen, rest of the movie can't live up to it.
A Clockwork Orange: I can't decide who's ending I prefer.
Spartacus: he apparently tried to steal the screenwriter's credit.
Killer's Kiss and The Killing: despite the Swamp Diamonds gal in the latter (^_^) these are definitely buildup.
Eyes Wide Shut: haven't seen it, partly cuz I hate Tom Cruise and partly cuz I want something to look foreword too.
Paths of Glory: I can't think of anything bad to say of it, even if it does have the beatnik from Tormented.
By elimination I have to go with 2001. OK, I'll never completely forgive Kubrick for leaving the radiators off the Discovery, but it's as close to an epiphany a skeptic like me gets . . . at least in a movie.

I voted for Dr. Strangelove. There are one or two other Kubrick films that I happen to admire greatly but for me, it's Strangelove all the way.
And that's probably because I think it's his tightest movie, with the best overall performances. The film itself helps, obviously - high order black comedy.
It's also yet another case of a movie that was shot in black and white in the era when color was more or less common in film (and just beginning to get common in tv). To me, that's audacious...but then, it's an audacious movie.
