But for 1976, I think Rocky was deserving. I think the subsequent Rocky films have diminished the greatness of the original. People tend to forget that he didn't win at the end of the first one. It wasn't about a sports hero winning the big game. It was about a down and out loser who proved he could go the distance. It was about toughness and perseverence. I agree here about Rocky, it does get it's legacy tarnished by the sequels.

I can't seriously seperate what I think is best and what I like. What I like is what I think is the best. I can't vote for something that does nothing for me either intellectually or emotionally.
Presidents Men put me in a Coma, Network was good, not great, Taxi... snore. So, Rocky. That's what does it for me.

sampo, I didn't think any film from that year was a work of genius. I like LA and As Good As It Gets. Thought Hunting was good and didn't care for Booge in the least. That's why I had no problem with Titanic. It was as good as anything else out there. But I felt everything was a flawed in some way.

Nic Roeg's "The Man Who Fell To Earth." One of my all-time fav films. Really? Is that the one with David Bowie? That movie sucks. Sorry. LOL No need to apologize. Really? I love that film. Has to be one of the most visually interesting things I've ever seen. Also I really like some of the dialogue, how Bowie's character can't really relate: "I thought of you once or twice...". "They're like children. Exactly like children." And who can forget Candy Clark wetting her pants when she sees Newton in his true form for the first time. LOL But it is a very strange film. And it goes off the rails a bit for it's final third.

Nic Roeg's "The Man Who Fell To Earth." One of my all-time fav films. Criterion has a special edition set in September for The Man Who Fell To Earth. Hopefully the remastered picture will be much better.

Rocky is overrated -- the others are very, very good -- but Network might be my favorite movie of all time. It gets scarier every time I see it, as the real world gets more like the world of the movie.

It gets scarier every time I see it, as the real world gets more like the world of the movie. If the real world gets too much like the movie, here's what you do... Turn off your TV, go to your window, and yell, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm going to continue taking it!!!"

Great book btw. A sci-fi classic by George Clayton Johnson (who wrote some great Twilight Zones) and William F. Nolan.

I haven't seen All the Pres. or Bound for Glory from start to finish, but the rest are okay. Since I am a horror buff I had to vote other. I would say The Omen is my fav. for 1976. With of course Squirm coming in second.

LOL. Good ol' Logan's Run. I saw that on TCM not too long ago. Can't decide whether it's a classic or MST fodder. Yea I think it's a classic in it's own cheesy way. I recently got it on dvd & noticed that if you pause it during many of the shots with the big mirror robot guy, you can easily see the camera crew & lighting in his reflection. Good stuff! ;D
