I was wondering what you guys thought of this director. To me, I love his films like Forrest loves Stanley Kubrick's films. Tell me if you've seen any of his movies, heard of him or never heard of him.
By the way if anyone has The Movie Channel, one of his best films "Belle de Jour" is on tonight.

I like Belle Du Jour....it's probably his best "late period" film.
Ah, Bunuel. A fascinating director with an original vision...I mentioned his Nazarin in the Bad People thread...that's a pretty fascinating film.
But my opinion overall? He's a one trick pony. He just keeps making the same film over and over again with sometimes weak, sometimes good, sometimes great results. Bergman said that almost every director makes a film eventually that is exactly what you'd expect from a director...for example he said when he made Face to Face (or maybe it was Autumn Sonata) that Bergman had finally made a Bergman film. Get what he's saying? Fellini sometimes made Fellini films and, in Bergmans' opinion, Bunel always makes Bunel films. My own example would be Scorsese. When he made "Casino" he made a Scorsese film--he was just playing off himself, doing stuff he had already done, and done better in other films, without enough variation. Bergman said the only director who avoided this was Kurosawa. He said Kurosawa never made a Kurosawa film.
Anyway, I agree with his opinion of Bunuel while admiring some of his films....
