Ace Combat 4 & 5. Both had cutscenes between missions that wove a decent story. At one point during Ace Combat 5, you lose a member of your wing. He refuses to punch-out of his wounded fighter over a populated city, so he augered it in to the middle of a football stadium. That's the only time I ever got choked up over the death of a VIDEO GAME character. Other awesome Boss Battles at the end of either game would make good movie climaxes.

I'm going to come on board here as another fan of the "Clue" movie. I thought it was pretty well done (though I openly admit that "Murder By Death" was funnier in several respects).
See, I'm torn. I don't know if I want a video game movie that follows the game incredibly closely, or if I want the opposite extreme: clearly set in the same world as the game, but not necessarily part of the game.
Either extreme (or middle ground) has potential problems.

The only movie I really liked about a video game was the Wizard. And that is probably because I was little and everybody in my class liked it. We thought it was oscar stuff. Saw it recently and it made me want to go back in time to hit myself with a shovel ( it would also be cool to bring a x-box 360 and tell all the kids "you think super marios bros 3 is cool check this out" and while they are all salivating, I go back and still the school funds or set the whole school on fire). Still I like that crappy movie because of it's nostalgic point. It's weird that at that time, two of my favorite sweetest movies(the wizard, Pee Wee's Big Adventure) both had the same dinosaur restaurant in them.
The only semi passable movie was the Final Fantasy one and I didn't like it because it was not only cliched but didn't have anything to do with Final Fantasy. And you know what, that sucked. With Final Fantasy having so many great stories and monsters, just a little of it would have been great. But no.
I don't really think they have a great future.People think Zelda would be good but I'm waiting for Alex Kidd in the Miracle World. Or maybe Clash at Demonhead.

I would have liked to see Final Fantasy light-hearted and medieval, maybe even based on Final Fantasy VI. They probably couldn't include that pedophile King Edgar though without an R rating.
The one game I would give a chance as a movie is Thief. If done right that could be incredibly awesome.

The cool thing about the Wizard is that Jenny Lewis, the chick from the movie has released a CD, was the lead singer of Rilo Kinney and was backup singer in the Postal Service. She' s was featured in the Spin that has The Strokes on the cover.
It's great that one of my crushes who I didn't know what happened to is so succesful because another one of my crushes just came out saying she was a huge meth head. But I'm surprised that the rest of the cast of that show ( Full House) hasn't O'd yet.

I sure hope there's hope in movies based on video games. Especially after I sent out 1,000 copies of my script for "Oregon Trail".
The scene at the outpost where the main character has to decide whether to spend $2.00 on a gun or on medicine is particularly gutwrenching.
Or the scene where he teaches his son how to shoot the deer that repeatedly runs from left to right in front of them. "You have to shoot where he's going to be, son."

I feel kind of sorry for that whole cast, especially the kids. a fundamental, frightening Christian. a meth head. a coke addict/"anoretic". and then the normal Olsen. Rilo Kiley is one of my favorite bands.

I liked "Clue" also....I loved the cast they got together for it....I am a huge Tim Curry fan.
The one "game-into-movie" I will check out in the not so realistic hope that they do some justice to it is "Hitman"....not the Chuck Norris film but the game with Agent 47. I enjoyed playing this game but I am not thrilled at all that they signed Vin Diesel to play the role of 47
We'll have to see I guess

It may look bad on paper, but I think Diesel is actually a gaming fan though, so he might be able to portray the character better than most hack actors simply looking for a paycheck.

As long as he "acts" like 47 and not like XXX.....47 has a quiet dignity as a stone cold killer....if that makes any sense whatsoever.
