Y.A.R. (Yet Another Remake) coming to a theater soon, this time it's The Omen. Now the original wasn't a great movie, but chances are it runs circles around this new one. www.apple.com/trailers/fox/theomen/(Best thing about it is the release date: June 6th, aka 6-6-06)

Hoorah, they are remaking the most dull and boring horror movie ever made.

I liked the original Omen, especially the part where David Warner gets beheaded by the pane of glass. Am I gonna see the remake? I highly doubt it. I'm REALLY over the remake thing. Neil Labute is remaking The Wicker Man and I think I'm gonna get a stepladder so he can jump up my butt.

Thought they re-made that one already....called it Fahrenheit 9/11. Will they get another former "Doctor Who" to play Lawn Darts with this time? Hoorah, they are remaking the most dull and boring horror movie ever made. Nah....that was Rosemary's Baby

Nah....that was Rosemary's BabyRosemary's Baby ruled, it's one of my favorite horror films ever (and the book by Ira levin is one of my favorite horror novels ever). In general I find more subtle horror films much scarier than the dumb-ass ones they make now, with everything jumping up and screaming in your face. I do like super-gory horror movies, but I don't think any recent horror film has been as gory as the Italian ones from the late '70's, like Zombi or Cannibal Holocaust. I'm sure some asshat will get around to remaking Rosemary's Baby, though, and I will sigh and shake my head, and avoid the theaters like the plague, as I've been doing with increasing frequency lately.

Buried Alive was quite possibly the goriest 70's Italian flick of them all. The camera certainly wasn't shy about showing the necrophiliac gutting his dead girlfriend and tossing her organs in a bucket. Plus there was a pretty graphic scene of a girl getting roasted in the crematory oven.

This past weekend I saw Zombie Holocaust, which was pretty slow but had some great gore effects, like a zombie getting his face literally rearranged by a boat motor. Those Italians don't cut away from the yucky either, they just make you look right at it. Brains and intestines and maggots, oh my!

I liked the old film a lot. One of Peck's best performances, plus the scene where Mrs. Baylock throws Lee Remick out the window scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. It's that demented look on her face.

I have just one question "Why?" I mean, can't anyone in Hollywood come up with some kind of original idea? I agree that the original was really scary, those big Rottwielers scared me when I was a kid. Will they remake "Casablanca" next???

Ebert & Roeper gave this 2-thumbs-up. I know that doesn't necessarily mean a lot, but that they said this was a faithful remake does at least give the filmmakers some credit for respecting the original story. Because I'm sick of "in name only" remakes that throw out the original story and instead write a new one. If they are going to do that, then why not give the movie a new title too? I think a remake should be at least that: an actual remake of the original story.

I can only think of one good remake: John Carpenter's The Thing. Other than that, none of them were worth it. I agree with you about The Thing. I loved both the original and the remake kicked butt.

I think there's been a lot of good remakes. The most famous is The Maltese Falcon, which was the 3rd version of that story. And look how many times Dracula was made into a movie, a number of times to good effect. The idea of remakes is not new or necessarily a bad idea, it's how the filmmakers handle the material that matters. If the filmmakers are genuinely talented and respect the source, then the results tend to be better. It's when the filmmakers are a bunch of hacks who don't give a damn about the source material that bad remakes are made. Unfortunately, that's been the case in most remakes from the past few years.
