I need help remembering the title of a movie I seen as a child on my local creature feature sometime in the 70's. The movie was in color and centered around a satanic book. The main characters as I remember them were two young couples on a picnic. They find the book somehow and all hell breaks loose. For some reason it is very important for them to take the book with them out of the woods/desert. Seems like this book brings out monsters. I remember a giant living in a alternate world that stalks and kills one of the guys. I also remember some park ranger following the couples around trying to get the book back. He is some kind of a vampire/zombie. Long story short everyone in the group gets killed except one of the guys who ends up in some sort of insane asylum. One year later a girl who's soul has been taken over by the book(satan) comes to kill the guy in the asylum. The End. Sorry if this rambles but I was a very young child when I seen this movie and my memories are fuzzy. If you have any ideas as to what this movie is called let me know. thanks

I believe the film is "Equinox", which has just been issued by The Criterion Collection, if I am not mistaken.

THAT'S IT!!! Thanks a million. Now I can order it from amazon. Nobody I have ask knew the title to this movie. Did you see it on a creature feature or monster bash late saturday night show? I used to watch them when I was a kid in the 70's. Thanks to amazon and ebay I have started a collection of these movies and I now share them with my kids. Seems like WGN channel 9 would play them too. Thanks again

You're welcome, lisa.
By the way, if it shows up on Chicago television at all, my money's on Svengoolie. But I think it costs too much. He tends to show films that are so bad that the distributor pays the station to show it.

I love Equinox...great film. A friend of mine who projects movies while she DJs in a bar showed some clips from this last halloween. And I've seen it in its entirety before.
But what I remember most is seeing the commercial they played on tv for it when I was kid. We were on vacation and in a hotel. The image of the flying devil guy descending from the sky really scared the heck out of me.
But I remember another image from that commercial or another that was not in the film when I finally saw it as an adult. It was a shot of demon firing a machine gun and killing people. Maybe I dreamed it. Has anyone ever seen such an image in a film from the seventies?

What channel is svengoolie on? When does he broadcast? Does he broadcast from chicago? We live about an hour or so out of chicago and probably can pick it up. Is it cable or free tv?

Free TV, my dear. WCIU, Channel 26 the U! www.wciu.com/main.aspYou should be able to pick it up. Me-TV also. Sven runs Saturday nights 11-1am. Then on Me-TV, they show a classic Sven episode from 1-3am. Check your local listings.

No, I should have been more specific Shep. This was something I saw in the early seventies...not Gargoyles but something simliar.

Thanks Chuck,
I'll check it out tomorrow night. I can't believe I have never heard of this guy. Guess thats what I get for being a cable snob. Like the song says some of the best things in life are free.
