Name some movies that disturbed you beyond belief (aka, the "I need a shower" kind of disturbed).
The one that did it for me was SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. The incidents that the killer goes through that made him what he was made me sad, mad and very disturbed. The co-workers at the toy store that he hung out with made me angry as to how they could be blind to his fear of Santa. The unrated version's lingering on the gore just made me feel a little sick, but the kicker was the gunning down of a deaf priest as Santa, mistaken for the killer, by the poilce when he won't respond to their orders to halt (the fact that he was deaf was unknown to the police). Not only that, but the gunning down was done IN FRONT OF A GROUP OF CHILDREN! Way to scar the poor kids for life!

It also didn't help that Mother Superior, the very authoritarian, cold-hearted nun who ran the orphanage where the killer was sent to, and further scarred him for life with her ideas of "punishment," was not killed by the killer (the police captain shot him before he could do it). I felt cheated, angry, disturbed, and in dire need of a shower.
The only way it could have been less disturbing: they could have put some freaking humor in the film! The movie took itself way, way too seriously. When I picked the film up, I was expecting a very cheesy slasher film in the Friday The 13th vein about a killer Santa.
Instead, what I got was 85 minutes of depression and despair.
If there's a very die-hard slasher film fan on here who wants the disc for this film and wants to trade for it, PM me.

Philip Ridley's The Reflecting Skin. I have a copy on VHS. I tried to record this 4 times on cable, and for some reason, I would always get up and stop the tape deck. I was so weirded out by the film. I told a friend of mine about it, and he, too, had trouble watching it. VERY weird, unsettling film. Viggio Mortensen is in it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0100469/ |

The one that will get me EVERY time is The Exorcist. I outright refuse to believe there is a film out there that will creep me out more than that horror classic. I still can't believe that film was made in 1975.  |

Minor correction....it's actually 1973.
Yeah, I was watching the Exorcist not too long ago and one thing I noticed was the way they cut away from each scene. They present something horrible and don't dwell on it and make it "really big" like a lot of movies would today....it's all presented very matter of fact without a lot of exposistion....very well done film that will last longer than most that are made today.

The exorsist I can't even watch all of that movie. When I was a kid Night of the Living Dead deeply disturbed me. Even though Zombies don't scare me anymore in movies, I still have nightmares about them. I also felt totally disturbed by the hellraiser series of movies.

I'm sorry, everyone, but The Exorcist did NOTHING for me. I had rejected the papist claptrap ages before I saw the film, and it just bored me. I saw a well made film, mind you, but I didn't buy into the fear. It just didn't connect with me.

I didn't care for the Exorcist at all. |

I know when I first watched it, I was going to a Lutheran grade school so that kind of stuff really did scare me back then. The weird thing is I've been an agnostic for quite a few years now, and that film STILL has the ability to creep me out. I think it might be because it's happening to a little kid. It sure can't be because of "demon possession" because I don't believe in anything like that. Interesting to see not one, but two people say The Exorcist didn't do anything for them. I don't know one person who doesn't get weirded out by it. And that includes many friends of mine who also don't follow organized religion! |

(plus I have a very dark sense of humor) As for the Exorcist...what does believing or not believing in religion have to do with it? (I wasn't raised in a religious way at all)...I don't believe in ghosts but The Haunting scares the hell out of me. |

Snuff: I know In_Stereo's avatar is a character in this movie, and it was billed as an actual snuff film "made in South America where life is cheap". The idea is you actually kill the actors so it's real(and of course, then you don't have to pay them either).There's plenty of gore in it, but it is kind of disturbing because it's billed as a snuff film.
The Manson Family: a supposed documentary about the Manson Family intersperses news footage and a story of modern day youth who wish to emulate Manson. A newscaster is doing a story on the Manson Family and the youths think he is bad mouthing Manson, so they plot to get the newscaster. Shows intense violence including the killing of people and a satanic sacrifice of a puppy.
Silent Night, Deadly Night was also one of these disturbing films. I actually saw it when it came out in theaters. I remember they delayed the start of the film and we found out later from the newspaper that someone had said that they put a bomb in the theater where it was playing. The movie wasn't even that good, either.

lmd, I loved Audition. Twisted, sick and (I thought) very funny.
I saw The Haunting when it first came out. When you left the theater, you were jumping at shadows. I also had trouble sleeping that night. Amazing film.

Just hearing my teenage brother and sisters talk about it freaked me out. They actually made the movie much scarier in my mind then when I actually seen it. Still I can't watch it now. |
