Does anyone here relaly get into certain atmospheres of films? One of my favorite films is a vampire movie from 1987 called Graveyard Shift (also known as Central Park Drifter). The film has somewhat of a thin plot but the lighting and the atmosphere of the film really make it for me. The Qequel, The Understudy: Graveyard Shift 2, is the same way. Movie kinda sucks (it does) but the atmosphere of the film is really cool in my opinion.
Same goes with Lucio Fulci movies or Dario Argento movies.
Chuck: I know you feel the same way since it seems we both have the same taste is film, rock on hah.

I agree Kubrick was really good at atmosphere. Even though most people hate the film, Eyes Wide Shut had a really great atmosphere throughout the entire film. And the ending was great.

Kwaidan, Kobiyasha's brilliant film, creates a beautiful atmosphere.
The original The Haunting, the same way. When you left the theater after seeing it, you were literally jumping at shadows.
Fulci's The Beyond is like a filmed nightmare, as is Lynch's Eraserhead. Lynch's The Elephant Man is also steeped in atmosphere. Even Woody Allen did it in Shadows and Fog.
Now, for the crap.
Dementia 13 always got me. Great atmosphere. (The Screaming Skull tried for it and failed miserably.)
The Monolith Monsters is a 50s horror film, whereby a meteroite that has fallen near a small western town, grows when it gets wet. Or when pieces of it get wet. And there are LOTS of pieces of it. Creepy atmosphere maintained for a B movie. One of my favorites. I'll probably think of a lot more. My brain is a little tired right now.

Hmmmm...Chuck, I think Monolith Monsters is hilarious. I wish they'd riffed that one.
I love the atmosphere Fellini created in his movies.
I like the atmosphere of most movies made in about 1966....the colors, the feel of the times.
Also, the original Haunting is a textbook case of creating atmosphere with a minimal of effects.

lmd, I think Monolith Monsters is hilarious, too! It's always been one of my favorites. (Can we all sing: Everybody must get stoned.) (If you've seen the movie, you'll get it.)
Fellini is amazing. La Dolce Vita doesn't hold up as well as others. Juliet of the Spirits is (at least today) my favorite Fellini.
