More. More. MORE!!!!! (see K04)
I think most of us would agree that the host segments need a lot of work, but we can't blame them. You do 1 character for a bag full of years (especially Kevin) and transitioning to a different character (while still working with the same people you did the old character with) can't make for the most comfortable on-screen performances.
Mike and Cro... er, Bill were... well, Mike and Crow. Kevin on the other hand sounded like Kevin and not so much like Tom. But, with my apologies to anyone who might be offended by this, it really IS MST3K 2.0. If you really get down to it, it's MST3K 7.0 (at least) if you count all of the iterations of the show over the years. It feels like this is what Mike and the Bots are doing now after crash landing back on earth, and it makes me giddy.
All in all it is spectacular! I can't wait for the 2nd one.

By the way, in response to several comments ago, discussing Rue McClanahan doing appearances at B&N. Yes, she has a book out about her life and times in Hollywood, etc. I heard her talking about it on the radio, I think it's called something about having been married a bunch of times. Something like, "My Five Husbands" or something.
Wait, I'll google it. Be right back.
Okay, I'm back. "My First Five Husbands." Sounded interesting enough for those who care.

About 1/2 way through Hollywood After Dark...f*cking hilarious. Better than any Rifftrax I've seen and easily up there with MST3K. I hope the Film Crew stays around for a long time.

That can be easily solved with but a "We moved into a new office complex" or some such thing. I hope there are more. They seem to be marketing it with hopes that there will be more (I mean, honestly, why promote it like they're doing if they don't plan for more?).

Because Shout!Factory pays them money?

Because Shout!Factory pays them money? Hmm, good point. I just sort of figured they got paid in advance (before the DVD's came out) and that was kind of the end of it. You could be right though.

Well Comic-Con is a big deal and has to be organized like a year in a advance, and for Kevin and Bill there is the fairly reasonable expense of flying and staying out there for it. Now I wouldn't be suprised if Legend Films and Shout!Factory split the costs

I watched "Hollywood After Dark" last night. I was fearful. I had the DVD for a couple of days, but was afraid to watch--what if it was horrible?
But it wasn't horrible. In fact, the riffs were pretty good. I agree with most here that the host segments weren't quite all they could be, but, hey, this is the first outing. If these take off, I believe we'll see more energy in whole production.
I'll admit that the whole experience was a bit bittersweet. I miss MST3K and hearing Kevin's voice, particularly, made me feel sad. But that has no bearing on how open I am to the Film Crew project--I think I'll get over it. I already have "Killers from Space" and I'm looking forward to seeing it this weekend.

The Film Crew, Killers From Space DVD review. Or something like Killers From Space, the Film Crew Edition.
This would have a made a great MST3k episode. The MST version would have Frank Gerstel from the Atomic Brain and Peter Graves from the Beginning of the End, Peter Graves from It conquered the World, Peter Graves from Attack of the Eye Creatures and Peter Graves from Airplane but for some reason this only features Peter Graves from Biography.
Repeated over and over. Yes, we get it, he was the host of Biography. Killers From Space has Peter Graves in an Airplane {Seriously, "Repeat after me" gets nothing?!} and being attack by a giant grasshopper and this only reminds the Film Crew of a TV show from A&E?
I enjoyed the bug eyed aliens bit, the general "giant" creatures stuff {but when movies are made centered around a giant creature, like, I don't know, the Giant Gila Monster and a movie uses a similar "monster" in a small role like this, shouldn't it merit a reference of some sort? And The Film Crew references TV more than movies. Why?}, the relationship between Doc Martin and his wife and the Christoper Walken voice like thing.
Same "Bob Honcho" style intro but with a more MST style themed act break and concluding skit.
Final verdict: I would have enjoyed the movie more without the Film Crew or with the MST crew. 2/5 but I am interested in watching again as I really enjoy these type of bad Sci-Fi movies.

I enjoyed the first two Film Crew discs much more than I would have, and grow fonder of them on a second viewing. While the extras seem a tad lame, the guys are just getting back into the swing of things and it'll certainly warm back up. I can't complain too much here, I'm enjoying the discs.
I just hope they don't go the way of the Joe Bob Briggs/Media Blaster commentary discs.

'Killers From Space' disappointed me on first viewing. I thought it was weaker than 'Hollywood After Dark,' which I felt had many more laughs written into it. The gag writing on KFS seemed much more sparse. In fact, I fell asleep and missed most of the second half.
But I'll watch it again, because like most of us I am really hoping this new formula will be a big success. I will certainly buy new installments.

I am happy with both of them and I hope that Shout Factory sees enough sales to warrant them asking for more.

I hope that Shout Factory sees enough sales to warrant them asking for more. I'm with you on that. I will continue to buy them as they come in, because they need a chance to really hit their stride.
