It was inevitable, even if you didn't know it. And yes, there will be some Fleetwood Mac albums mentioned. They are listed in no particular order.
Bekka & Billy - Bekka & Billy (1997)
I adore this album. It's produced by Garth Fundis, who has produced some of country music's best artists, including one of my favorites, the late Keith Whitley. Bekka & Billy is a straightforward country album. That alone would turn most folks away, but you have to listen to this album to really understand how great it is. Bekka Bramlett's vocals are amazing, in particular her backing vocals on Heart To Call Home, my favorite song from the album. Top to bottom, here's not a bad song on here. A great album put together by two overlooked artists. Great songwriting and great songs.
Billy Burnette - Try Me (1986)
I wouldn't call this Billy Burnette's best solo effort, but it's definitely my favorite. The title track is catchy along with the second track, Ain't It Just Like Love. Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie sings with Billy on It Ain't Over and her vocals really fill out the song. My favorite song from the album is Who's Using Your Heart Tonight. The song sounds like the music and lyrics can't fit, but they do. Unfortunately this album is not available on CD.
Fleetwood Mac - Then Play On (1969)
This is the absolute peak of Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green at the band's helm. He's always remembered and reveared for his amazing guitar skills, but Then Play On really displays his writing talents, specifically on Closing My Eyes and Before The Beginning. This album features one of the greatest instrumental pieces too in Oh Well.
Keith Whitley - The Essential Keith Whitley (1996)
I wouldn't put a greatest hits compilation on any list, but this one I have to make an exception. It is so well put together, save the omission of Miami, My Amy. To me the best thing this album has are the six songs that were on the hard to find 1985 mini-album A Hard Act To Follow. It's country, but it's so good. I love listening to this song on a rainy night...
Lindsey Buckingham - Out Of The Cradle (1992)
A superb album. I've always felt that Lindsey's solo work has largely been unappreciated and this album is the definition of that. Top to bottom there isn't a weak song. The album goes through motions, uplifting to bringing you to tears. Listening to headphones gives you one experience, listening to it on a good sound system gives you another.
Mick Fleetwood - The Visitor (1981)
This album was definitely ahead of its time. Mick and a few of his friends when to Ghana to record with some of the country's best musicians. The Visitor features some typical "meat and potatos" rock while also having some traditional Ghanan musicians playing in those songs as well as their own songs. It's such a shame that this album isn't on CD.
Nellie McKay - Get Away From Me (2004)
Man... what can I say? When I first heard Nellie, I was so amazed. What can't the girl do? Her abilities as a songwriter are so impressive. Vocally she sounds so beautiful. The best thing is that she doesn't take herself or her music too seriously and it really comes through in the songs.
That's all for now. More to come in future days.
