Not to go off topic, but when I grow up I want to be a fisherman.

They sometimes serve as backing band to tom Waits and done the South Park theme so they're okay with me!

When The Residents' Freak Show came out, there was a phone number to call on it. I called one afternoon, and talked to one of The Residents, and asked a couple of questions about releases. A couple of weeks later, I saw Les being interviewed on MTV (when they played music videos), and he named The Residents as one of his big influences. What caught me about the interview, however, was the voice. I recognized it. I swear it was the voice of The Resident that I talked to. It's one of those mysterious things in life whose answer I will never know.
(I'd bet money it was Les, though.)

I caught Primus at one of the Lollapaloozas I attended. They were great fun as best I can remember. I was pretty hammered.

I haven't had much exposure to Primus, aside from this little anectdote. A few months ago, I was listening to some local college radio station, and they played "My Name is Mud". I actually quite liked what I heard, but the DJ stopped the song about a minute in and said "Yeah, this song sucks, I'm not gonna play it anymore." I didn't get to hear the whole thing until yesterday, when I downloaded it - it's still a good song, but it's really hard to hum.

I actually caught Primus a long, long time ago (1989?) at a party somewhere in SF's East Bay. I was totally amazed at their performances. When I got a job at a record store a year later, I tried over and over to get their album, Suck on This, into the store, but it was only out on their own label at that point. Eventually they got picked up by Caroline Records, then Interscope (at the beginning of the major labels "Alternative" band grabbing), and it all kinda snowballed. It helped that I was living in a major college town at the time.
Also check out Oysterhead, if you haven't yet. Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland (from the Police) make some really, really interesting music. Check out their website for music and video samples!
