Hey. Not in here much, but something came to mind the other day.
Do you have any 'Head Songs'?
I'm not talkin' about a song you hear on the radio, and then hum for the next three hours, I'm talkin' about songs that re-appear in your head. Songs that are years, even decades old that you find yourself singing or repeating at obscure times.
Four come to mind at the moment:
"The Boys of Summer" - Don Hendley "Higher Love" - Steve Winwood "Owner of a Lonely Heart" - Yes "In Your Eyes" - Peter Gabriel
I don't know enough about music to know if these have a common musical hook, or the lyrics complement each other; I just know that out of the blue I'll find myself singing one or the other. I wouldn't even call them 'all-time favorites'.
Anyone else?

could it be these songs were popular at times in your life when something important happened to you? songs have that kind of effect on me - i can hear just any random song and suddenly i remember exactly how i felt on a day from years ago - how i felt, where i was in life at the time, etc. or is that just me?

Ode To Joy bit from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. It just crops up when my mind's blank. Probably just because it's such a great wee tune!

Usually it's a random kids' song from Sunday School when I was tiny. They'll just randomly pop in my head and make me insane!

"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" --The Hollies (and I love that song!) That Mr. Sun song which drives me NUTS. The dumb "Mr. Sun, sun, Mr. golden sun, please shine down on meeee..." one. Well that's all I can think of for the time being.

I'm not talking about hearing a song and remembering an event; I'm talking about being in the shower, or mowing the lawn and you find yourself halfway through the lyrics of a song that's twenty years old.

I thought of a completely bizarre one. Occasionally I will suddenly start singing a bit of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Only, it's the brief snippet of a version from one of Weird Al's old polka medleys. I don't even like the song or listen to Weird Al anymore but every once in a while the words randomly pop out of my mouth! AAAAAAAAAAGH!

I sometimes get Schoolhouse Rock in my head, something I'll see on TV or something will bring those songs all back.
