Inductees for 2008:
John Mellencamp Leonard Cohen Madonna The Dave Clark Five The Ventures
A few thoughts.. John Mellencamp. I've never had any use for him but I guess he was inevitable. He's been very popular and sold a lot of records, but none to me.
Leonard Cohen. I'm a big fan, but he's not really rock and roll. But the term is used with a lot of latitude. I think a good choice.
Madonna. Once again not really rock and roll but I suppose also inevitable. Her inclusion means nothing to me.
The Dave Clark Five. They're deserving but never meant as much to me as some other British Invasion bands. But a good choice.
The Ventures. Another good choice. Great and influential instrumental band.
But as the eligibility moves more into the '80s I can't help but think that the pickings will continue to get slimmer.

I don't know.
They really whiffed on the progressive rock of the '70s.
Even if they're not your thing, Yes, Rush, King Crimson, and Genesis sold millions & millions of albums, and had an amazingly far-reaching influence on rock & roll.
So Rush isn't in, but Madonna is?
That's like Jethro Tull beating Metallica in a contest for "Hard Rock Performance". So ridiculously laughable that it'd never happen in real life, right?

They really need a "Pop Music Hall of Fame".
The only thing "Rock & Roll" about Madonna is/was her nudity...
I remember that Tull fiasco too.
How could Rush NOT be in the R&RHoF?

I have to totally disagree with the whole Madonna thing because she's not rock. She has always been dance/disco music.

I agree but they induct a lot of acts that aren't really rock. It's a broad term.

Madonaa? Pfft, she sells herself more than she sells her music. My only consolation is that, one day, everyone will be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Including me.

THE VENTURES NEED IN. THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR A FEW YEARS NOW!
I love the Ventures. I also wouldn't mind seeing the Dave Clark Five get in.

Oh, guess I didn't quite understand.
And I'm from Cleveland! Wow. I'm what they call "slow"...

The Ventures and (sadly) John Mellencamp are the only rock acts on the list.
I always felt the Dave Clark Five were pop. (Pseudo Rock)

(Pseudo Rock) But wasn't "pop" back then a bit more respectable and pretty much what we'd call "rock" now? I mean, the Beatles were essentially within the pop confines, but we treat them like a rock group. And the DC5 seemed to be the early Beatles, only less good.

Will it take a bio-pic to get Warren Zevon in this stupid Hall?

My thoughts were the same as every year... the facility is in Cleveland but the ceremony is in NYC. Secondly, the facility never should have been in Cleveland, it should be in downtown Memphis.
