They've taken the link away, but it still exists.

Just now heard about this. First thing I thought was that they would now be in competition with Rifftrax, which just may bring up a whole new era of Joel vs. Mike. Hopefully coexistence is possible here.
I would like to see someone get back to the formula of movie riffing broken up by skits, if that's what is planned with Cinematic Titanic. I'm sure Joel was being purposely vague, but I'll welcome any news when they're ready to dish it out.

What I'm about to say may come across as harsh to some and, tomorrow, you are more than welcome to ask me just how much I care about that fact. Nonetheless, here it is:
Screw Jim Mallon.* This is the real news. I'm tentative, but bring it on. Gimme some Trace.
*Love you, Paul.

Wow, Jim must be more vile than I had originally thought.

Wow, Jim must be more vile than I had originally thought. Its not that Jim's vile. He's just...misunderstood.

Oh hi! Long long long time listener, first time caller (and what better time to start calling in, right?)
Maybe this is just part of that general Jim-related weariness or just a big case of reading way too much into things, but anyone else notice the disparity in story-size on the home page for Satellite News? Bots are Back is the headline running on the top of the page and is roughly three times the size of the CT story. I don't know quite what I'm pulling from this observation, but it's what I observed nonetheless.

In the midst of my stunned , numb joy , I saw many folks here figuring that licensed meant DvD's a ' comin' . . but the full quote of Joel's >
We’ve licensed our first title and are working at a brisk pace to get it delivered in time for Christmas! So you can give it as a gift to one of your sly friends or a loved one. Or you yourself can watch over the holidays to fight off that strange malaise that always seems to happen.
.. well , you'd have to have a hard copy to give as a gift now wouldn't ya' ??
The gift is already being given tho'
thanks Joel !

Wow, Jim must be more vile than I had originally thought. Its not that Jim's vile. He's just...misunderstood. He's a businessman. His focus has always been the almighty dollar. That's, more or less, why Joel left in the first place. Some of the Brains themselves have made it clear that they're not fans of the man. He's not misunderstood - he's a bit of a dick, like it or not.

Oh , and I hate to sound too pragmatic here . . . But the re-embracing of "riffing" by so many former Brains , while certainly coming out of a "time-enriched perspective" , also must include a touch of "okay , my writing career got me loads of respect , but I need to live too" I do not for a second suggest it as an over-riding motivation , but it factors in along with their realizing how their best work "set the world afire" , what other endeavors didn't pan out lastingly , & how enough time has shown them what they miss most. They are all around the same age afterall. There'a a sudden deluge of "riff-based" projects for many intertwined reasons !

But aren't most dicks just misunderstood?

I don't know quite what I'm pulling from this observation, but it's what I observed nonetheless. I only noticed this after the Cinematic Titanic story actually shrunk from the size it was earler today - though that might have been to ensure that both stories are visible on the screen when people open the page so neither monumental article will be missed.

Let's go easy on Mr. Mallon.
He has generously looked the other way while his show's fanbase pirated his product. He continues to release (usually) pristine versions of our favorite show on DVD. He worked hard to get the show on the air and keep it on the air.
By all accounts, his relationships didn't end well with the other Brains. But none of us (except maybe RAD) have heard the whole story on that. And since when has a producer ever gotten along with the talent? His contribution to the 2007 MST renaissance seems less impressive than the others', but we really haven't seen it yet. Plus, he's reopening the merchandise store.
And I've never met the guy. He might be good at ping-pong.

I was actually thinking about a related question earlier this evening - if I somehow had the chance to meet Joel, would I congratulate him on his new endeavor, or would I tell him I'm sorry he's typecast himself into this role? Of course it's great from the consumer side, and it will likely do well for him, but I just wonder whether he is completely happy about it or if he'd rather do other stuff.
