I wonder. Look at CT's logo and assume that the silhouettes on there are similar to what will be their set up, and then imagine them on widescreen. It would about perfectly fill in those pillar-box edges.
Of course, I have a widescreen TV, so this idea sounds great to me, but for those without, it would mean you would have letterbox bars and then the silhouettes on the sides of that--not as great.

Since they will be strait to DVD releases, then I bet they will adjust the silhouettes according to the aspect ratio.

YOU WILL ALL LEARN TO LOVE AND APPRECIATE 16 X 9! Will this require us buying a new tv? Because the one we've got is about as old as I am.

Lol 16 X 9 is just widescreen ratio... The old CRT ratio is 4 X 3 or 1.81: 1 or something like that.
Computer screens, tvs, etc are all being made in the 16 X 9 ratio as are many tv shows now. But the 4 X 3s will still work, there will just be the mattes on the top and bottom of the screen.
Then again, come 2009 your CRTs won't get air broadcasts anymore- it's all going digital baby.

If we get letterboxed transfers of these I would be very surprised. It is not like they are doing any kind of restoration or anything. The only way I could see these being letterboxed would be if the film had already had a laser disc or DVD transfer released before. I bet they will be full frame. If the films are old enough they wouldn't necessarily be widescreen anyway.

^ Good point. Unless they have the movie smaller and the silhouettes around the screen of the movie while the entire thing is in widescreen... o_0

It would about perfectly fill in those pillar-box edges. . Only problem is that silhouettes only work when there is light behind them. If they were to superimpose them over pillar-boxed movies, you'd end up with black on black. Since it's safe to assume that most of their source material is going to be 4:3 aspect ratio, I'd expect that their videos are going to be the same, and wide-screen viewers will have to choose between stretched and pillared mode. Then again, is there any reason (other than the logo) to assume they are going to be using silhouettes at all? I haven't kept up on all the news about this project, so I honestly don't know what to expect.
