Hey guys (and girls. You know who you are), I Just had a rather disturbing (and disheartening) thing happen and wanted you all to be aware. If any of you have visited the Cinematic Titanic forum (and you know you have ) you realize that at this point it's unmoderated. There were several posts on one thread I saw where some vultures were gloating on the fact that 'The Oozing Skull' was already on Bittorrent and they were gleefully downloading it for free, and calling the people who actually paid for the DVD suckers. Well, be that as it may, I love the free-reign of the Internet so this is not a diatribe about the freedom of people to post (even if they are scum). I noticed today that someone posting as Joel Hodgson (with a link from their name to the Cinematic Titanic website, which might make someone think it's legitimate) posted a comment on every one of Mary Jo's personal Blog entries stating that 'The Oozing Brain was being offered for free as a Bittorrent download, with a link to the file. Of course, I know most of the people on this board are very Net-Savvy and wouldn't fall for something this lame, but for anyone who might possibly think this is actually from Joel, it's not. I had Mary Jo delete all of these comments, but I have no idea where else this slimy (in my opinion) creature has posted similar comments under Joel's name. The sad part is that if it continues, Mary Jo will have to turn off the comments section of her Blog, which we'd BOTH hate, as they are usually witty, insightful, and from very cool people. RAD

They REALLY need to get that forum in shape or just lock it up until they do. I'm sure there are multiple MSTies out there that would take over admin duty if they were asked.

I wouldn't've thought Mallon could sink that low. (JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING!) I wish there were 'net police who hunted these worms down. And killed them. I had Mary Jo delete all of these comments, but I have no idea where else this slimy (in my opinion) creature has posted similar comments under Joel's name. RAD If I can find any I'll let you know....

I was afraid something like that would start happening when everyone could easily create user accounts and post with a partially-incomplete forum.

On a similar note, I've seen a 7 minute clip of CT on You-tube the last few days. I messaged the poster and politely noted that it should be removed. He agreed, but it was still up the next day.

Any public forum without strong moderation will fail. They need to lock it, disable guest posting, and set up a mod staff. Then reopen it and strongly enforce the rules. (And make sure the rules are clear and easily accessible.)
I think they’ll find that its a few bad apples spoiling the bunch and after they’re sorted them out and banned their IP address it’ll be easier to maintain. When a forum is open and un-moderated like it is now, internet trolls smell blood and it attracts all kinds of people who enjoy causing grief.

what the hell? why are people so aggressively pushing the downloads...I mean..I write record reviews, and sometimes will track down a leak so I have a week or two extra before the promo shows up, and I've never seen anything so aggressively 'advertised' as having been leaked--in fact, most music leaks tend to keep things on the DL...
i find this very frustrating. my CT showed up earlier this week and I adore it...and I'm having people over for a CT/MST party this Saturday...I really hope that pirates don't muck this up for everyone.

I got comments from (the same?) invertebrate fake Joel on a few of my blog posts with CT in the subject. Fortunately my spam catcher kept them from getting posted. I'm marginally surprised that Apple's blogging software didn't catch them as well, since as a single comment they're spammy, and as the same comment over and over again, they're incredibly spammy. I'm using Wordpress (same as CT does for the blog), and the out of the box spam catcher (Akismet) is pretty good. I'd recommend that if her current blog can't offer adequate spam protection, she move to wordpress (I can even help with that) or another platform.
As for the torrenter's at the CT forum, somebody suggested they it was one or two garden variety trolls posing as many, and were much more interested in stirring the pot than spreading it on BT. I'd tend to agree, and suggest that anybody spotting them again not feed tham with attention.

GAAAH!!!! Bloody vultures and pirates. This just disgusts me beyond belief. It's bad enough that they are pirating CT, but to actively try to sabotage the whole endeavor by tricking others into also pirating it, making them think that it is actually being released for free?
This just makes me sick. :-(

While I'm sure there are people torrenting it and otherwise getting it for free that need to stop getting paid for whatever their day jobs are, I think these are spammers and trolls who know they can get their goals (leading traffic to their site and riling people up) with discussion of the 'free' CT.

DAMN YOU, FAKE JOEL!!!!! Just trying to trash things and undermine good peoples efforts. NoGoodniks! These are the same type goobers who get on multiplayer games, key their mic, and then blast crap Euro dance music for an entire round... As for the CT forums, I couldn't even figure out where to sign up or register. For some reason, I found nothing in the way of a Register link. Maybe I'm just a dufus? (Oh, there's no maybe about it!)

this is precisely why i won't register there until it's legit and ready for people to post. People ahouldn't be registered there in the first place. Hopefully we get a strong moderating team on there.
