Did anybody know about this?
It was sure a surprise to me when I went to the rifftrax site last night and saw two new trax 'now available.' One of them is Kevin and Bill (that's right, no Mike), riffing an episode of Star Trek New Voyages (a Trek show made by fans I believe?). The other trax is the film Dark Water riffed on by someone I've never heard of. I guess this is the launching of 'Rifftrax Presents' which will be trax with different folks all the time. Apparently there are already two more coming soon, including another Star Trek episode with Kevin and Bill.
Cool.

I (and, I'm assuming, a lot of other people) got the email about this last night. It seems like this could be a cool idea. For example, I enjoyed Troll 2 quite a bit so if they do a Rifftrax Presents with Rich Kyanka, I might pick it up if the movie was right.
I bought and downloaded the Star Trek Phase II episode with Kevin and Bill as soon as I saw it was available. I probably won't be able to watch it until tomorrow night, but I'm excited at the possibilities.
But yeah, I've never heard of this Matthew J. Elliot fellow either. A search for his name didn't turn up anything either. If Rifftrax Presents is going to be having a lot of unknown folks riffing, I suspect I'll be waiting for reviews before buying quite a bit.

STNV really deserved the RT treatment. I mean, a drab mono-tone Scotty? That's like a drab mono-tone Gimli. And why why why Takei? K&B did just fine without M. I can't wait for the next one 9/10.

This time Rifftrax is in the wrong. Not that Phase II isn't riff-worthy, but this is just a really messy way of going about it. Complicated stuff because the fan-project is technically already in violation with Star Trek copyrights. It has an understanding with Paramount that allows it to continue as long as there are no profits. Cawley didn't make any money off of it, and neither should RiffTrax.

They may have to remove the On Demand version, but this may get messy legally, unless something was sorted out!

I'd think that the Rifftrax legal people would have already looked into this, or they wouldn't have released it. I seriously doubt Mike and Legend Films would release a project that could cost them. I'm sure they have checked and double checked into this, and found that they could do this without any problems. I just think it's kinda silly how some of the fans (especially at the Rifftrax forum) are overreacting and trying to play lawyer. Have a little faith in our Riffers guys. It's gonna be fine!

Yeah the lawyer stuff is hilarious. Fingers crossed they don't get into trouble, although I trust that they put more research in than Rhino did with the Godzilla Vs. Megalon rights.

Spot on Gam Man. The thing is it actually was pretty damn well done, while at the same time being really bad, kind of like Time Chasers. Coincidentally did I notice in the end credits that it was made at Edgewood Studios where, if I'm not mistaken, said film was also done?
