I couldn't agree with you more. Nolan is a quality filmmaker who tried to make a quality film. That's not pretentious, that's basic craftmanship. I think the Dark Knight is a brilliant work of art. I wonder, does that make me pretentious too? Some people think it's pretentious for a "comic book" movie to have an intelligent, serious screenplay...as if it's a film that doesn't know it's place. I call those people pretentious. Very well put sir!

Spoiler Alert
Well first section is okay, kind of middle ground riffing. An hour in there are not so many digs at the fans (only one dig at comic book geeks in general) nor do they tease those who think this is a great film (for those who feared they’d do that, or those who wanted them to go in that direction)
On the meh side of things we get a few familiar and tired drug jokes, easy pokes at clowns, imitating Chinese accents. On the good there’s a Prince of Space call back that was funny and another good one about the bat signal from Mike and a cute quip about channeling Caesar Romero.
It might take me 3 segments to get through this one - but so far it’s shaping up to be fair to middling.
