So I still haven't seen an episode, much less the one I posted about the book _The Third Policeman_. I did just read an article about it, and it was in there, but just for a very small, quick shot. But, and here's a potential spoiler for you: _The Third Policeman_ is about a guy who goes through a tremendously surreal experience and then, at the end of the book, he realizes that he's dead and been "dreaming" all of his experiences. So: all the people on Lost are obviously dead and dreaming all this. Or at least someone is dreaming it all. And they're dead. Dead, I say. If that is the case I will be furious!

And, based on the preview at the end of the last ep, someone will die in the next ep. Any votes? I have read that it's a female this time. And a major character. I can't imagine it'll be Sun now that they've set up the reunion with Jin. And they still have to tell us more about Kate's backstory, so it probably won't be her. Killing off Claire would be cruel, but manageable. It would up Charlie's characterization and force him to be more responsible. Claire's story arc is pretty much done now that the son has been born. Except that they still have to resolve the whole "amnesia" cop out storyline. So the odds-on favorite is Shannon. Or one of the "tail section" women. Or my sources are off, and it'll be a guy. If they do kill one of the women off, it will probably be Rose. She is marked as far as I'm concerned.

Regarding mummi's "Third Policeman" theory...
Sawyer was also seen reading L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time". In that book, kids jumped into another dimension for an adventure. So they're not dead, they're just not on earth anymore. At least, not a place that obeys earth's laws.
Or, the books are just red herrings to drive anal retentive fans crazy.
Lindelof (the main writer & producer) has said that everything on the island has an explanation. I don't know if he means everything has a naturalistic explanation, but I hope not. The thought of a supernatural element is one of my favorite twists on the show. In other words, I'd follow Locke, not Jack.

Well?
MAJOR SPOILERS!!!
I'm glad I guessed right. Once the tail section chick pulled out the gun before the last commercial, I saw the ending coming.
It was a fun twist, though. It should set up some really nice conflict in future eps.

I'm pretty sure that the 'they're all dead' scenario is wrong. I don't have a link or any sources but the show's creators said Lost would not end like Jacob's Ladder.
I wish they would focus on things they've forgotten about in season one. What ever happened to Lostzilla? He chewed up and spat out the pilot but now everyone is complacent in his absence. I don't mind the focus on 'The Others' but they need to remember other plot threads.
My hunch is that most everything is based on humans having some competition. Anybody remember that show Prey? The one with the woman from Will and Grace? It was about a group of people that have evolved into an advanced amoral state that were trying to take over.
The french woman makes it look like people get 'infected' and then become one of the others.
But that doesn't explain the hatch very much. It's going to take genius to weave all the different ideas together.

Lost is my favorite show in TV. I have all the confidence in the world that they will end it appropriately. Maybe it'll turn out it was all a vision of an autistic kid...oh wait that finale is already taken.

MORE SPOILERS:
I think most of the answers have to do with the Dharma Institute stuff. I found online that two of the people on the boat who took Walt were also in the orientation film that Locke & Jack watched.
My theory is that "the others" are a group of the original Dharma folks, who have their own bunker(s). Based on what the guy told Ana Lucia last week, they take the "good people" and let the rest die or kill each other. Their strategies don't make any sense, but may have to do with the mysterious disease/quarantine subplot. Maybe they expect that the world will be destroyed, and that they'll have to rebuild a perfect society.

So is this becoming just another _Most Dangerous Game_ or, even worse, a rip off of _Bloodlust_?

So is this becoming just another _Most Dangerous Game_ or, even worse, a rip off of _Bloodlust_? No...not really. It's sort of an inverted Bloodlust. Instead of a sadistic host killing people he thinks are bad, you have sadistic hosts saving people they think are good. And I think Dr. Moreau might be on the next island over.

When Anna Lucia was talking to the "Other" guy she asked why The Others were attacking them and he said something like maybe they're not attacking. So maybe they think they're doing something for the greater good.

Another great ep tonight.
MORE SPOILERS!!!!
Mrs. Atari and I have been debating our theories about what Kate did for a couple months now. I'm pleased that I was right (I said she killed her dad, Mrs. A thought she had tried to kill her mom).
I loved Mr. Eko's story about Josiah. The writers know their stuff. And the ending with Michael on the computer was great.
We both thought that this was one of the best of season 2. I, for one, don't really care for Ana Lucia, and I'm glad the storyline is back with the original survivors.
