For a while I thought it was going to be Hurley, since Jacob kept appearing to him and noone else. I thought it would have been awsome, since Hurley is the one nobody would expect.
The show was kind of building on Jack though. It could be an interesting way to complete their "almost was" idea for the pilot episode where Jack was supposed to be killed. Instead, Jack could be the primary character the entire series, then die in the final episode only for Hurley (or Sawyer or Kate) to be the real hero.
I won't be surprised if it's a red herring. I won't be disappointed if it's not, though.

Or maybe perhaps, the "real" Locke will come back some how and it will be him. He was always the one who acted like he "understood" the island.
Wasn't he confronted by the Smoke Monster back in Season 1 and nothing happened to him?

On their way to a Driveshaft concert, are they? Aren't they going to Jack's son's concert because that's where Jack is going to be?

I don't know where they're going, but that would make sense. Good call.

That's my thought as well. Sadly, due to travel next week, I may or may not be able to watch the finale on Sunday. If worst comes to worst, I'll watch it online after I get back, but if I'm not here to discuss it soon after it airs, that'll be why.

I wonder if Walt will still have a roll to play in any of this. He just kind of... And where's Vincent?

Just a few more hours 'till Bob Newhart wakes up.

So...reactions? I can think of reasons to love it for what it was and hate it for what it wasn't.
(But, damn, that last half hour was just totally sentimental schmalz, which is forgivable, but they could have played the same theme without the slow motion every-character-embraces-every-other-character, couldn't they?)
Still, though, having Jack go back to that spot and have Vincent stop by, both predictable and perfect, especially the eye-closing moment. As soon as a friend said that it'll probably end with Jack dying, that same image popped into my head, as I'm sure it did many other peoples'...and I'm glad they went with it because it was a perfect final image.
The thing they'll have to live with now is keeping "the Island" very metaphorical rather than explicitly answering direct questions about what exactly it was. I think they approached it philosophically enough at times (like Atari has mentioned in previous posts) that they can do that adequately, but I'm not sure how many fans it will satisfy.

Wow. Just wow. I thought they ended it well, although some of the more subtle things weren't answered. My mind is currently blown so I can't give an intelligent response, perhaps tomorrow. I can't believe it's over!!

I thought it was the right balance of humor, action, and sentiment. I was especially satisfied with how the island story wrapped up. Desmond had to unplug the island so Jack & Kate could kill Locke, then Jack had to plug it back in, leaving Hurley & Ben in charge, while everyone else got away. Loved it.
The sideways world? I don't know yet. I suppose making it a sort of purgatory that the characters had to be awakened from is okay. But does that mean Jack's son was just an illusion? I didn't buy Christian's explanation that, "you all created this place to help you remember" (or something like that). And I thought the stained glass window was laying it on a bit thick. Once I started figuring out that they were all dead and meeting up in heaven, I thought, "Okay, fine." But then with Christian's speech, they tried too hard to shoehorn in an open-ended afterlife explanation that just didn't seem to hold together. Maybe it will upon repeated viewings.
Overall, I really enjoyed the episode, and the church stuff at the end was the only part that left me scratching my head. But not necessarily in a bad way. I'm sure the internet will blow up tomorrow (if it hasn't already) with the backlash crowd who think that the supernatural/mystical/spiritual ending is a big cop-out (see also the BSG finale haters). Not me, though.
To sum up my feelings: Island storyline = incredibly satisfied Sideways storyline = okay with the answer, not sold on the explanation
And who else really wants to see LOST: The Next Generation- The Hurley & Ben years.

And who else really wants to see LOST: The Next Generation- The Hurley & Ben years. I was wondering if Ben not wanting to go in and the whole "You were a good number one" thing was some kind of hint that there was a bigger story there. Or just a prisoner reference.

I've got a friend who was pretty peeved at the finale. Thought I'd post it:

I was surprised how much I liked it, seeing how much I screamed about Across The Sea, but I thought it was pretty darn well-done overall. And to be honest, this episode would have made no sense without it, so I’m going to forgive that episode even though I still don’t like it.
I have to agree with Mr. Atari, the island stuff was really nicely done, and I loved the idea of Hurley and Ben taking over the guardianship of the island. What a cool pair. Jack’s sacrifice was noble and I was moved by it. And the dog coming and lying down next to him may have been a bit hokey, but I thought it was nice.
As for the flash-sideways, I loved seeing everyone wake up, even though they didn’t do a great job of explaning what the heck was going on.
How exactly did they create this place, and when? The idea that time doesn’t exist there works for me, but Christian does tap it pretty hard on the head for a few lines there.
I loved Shannon and Boone coming back, but how great would it have been if Eko had been the church’s priest? Too bad they couldn’t get him to come back. The waking of Sun and Jin and Claire, Kate and Charlie were both very moving.
Overall, I was quite happy. It does have some of that ambiguity that hung around the BSG finale, and that’s fine with me, as well. Good show. I’ll miss it.

I liked it. Even the sappy ending didn't bother me. (I'm so sentimental) So many things were left unanswered but it doesn't matter. They could have come up with a bunch of technical explanations but that wouldn't have worked. I'm going to need to watch the whole series over again.
