Important game... chance to move into the top eight... Carolina leads the lowly Atlanta Thrashers 3-1 with about 10 minutes left in the game. Final score: Atlanta 5, Carolina 3. Do the Canes deserve to make the playoffs? No. If they luck up and happen to sneak in, do they have a chance? NO! Amazing to see how far we've gone down since winning the Cup. Sad.

I haven't been watching a whole lot of hockey due to various reasons. I'm shocked at how Carolina has fallen, and I'm totally shocked by how bad the Colorado Avalanche are(sorry Mr. A).I saw them play the Islanders last night, and they looked really bad, for the most part. It seems Colorado will be sellers this year, and will not make the playoffs. As a Wings fan, I can't cheer for the Avs, but am sorry that we won't be facing them in a playoff series.

If the Canes don't make the playoffs this year it means they've missed them four out of the last five seasons. The one season they made the playoffs... won the Cup. Amazing.

That is weird. Is there any real reason for it, or is it just a combination of things?

Well, in my particular Caniac view, the Canes' problems have always seemed to revolve around inconsistency among their two most important players, Eric Staal and Cam Ward. Both will have the occasional great game, perhaps even for a short series of games. When either or (especially) both play well, we just about always win. But for too long, MANY of our games have had to be won by the supporting cast. Whitney, Ruutu, Cullen, LaRose, Leighton, and Corvo can only do so much for us when our "big guns" decide not to fire on their many given nights. Just my observation, by no means fact or anything.

I am surprised that the Canes are playing so poorly. A few years ago, they looked like a real up and coming team. I'm old enough to remember when they were the Hartford Whalers and it was sad when they left New England. That being said, they seem to have a pretty good fan base in Carolina.

Ha ha, yeah, we don't have QUITE the fans the historical franchises do (you know, since we AREN'T historical yet), but considering how alien hockey was to NC at one time, I think it's doing quite well also. We've had quite a sizable string of sellout or near-sellout games recently, this DESPITE our frustrating up-and-down play of late.

Hey, you guys got Cole back, that's a good start! (Please don't push us out of a playoff spot) I feel bad for Miro Satan. I guess he kinda poured it on himself a bit but still...

Hard to believe Satan has fallen to such depths.

It is surprising; I thought he had more in the tank.

He just like... gave up it seems. And now he was starting to show some signs of life, but it was too late. Now he's been sent to the AHL... I dunno. I just feel bad for the guy. I don't know why; dude is still getting his 3.5 million and all.
Satan makes my soul weep.

Well, as of the last 3 games or so, the Canes have actually played - AWESOME! Kicking the respective butts of Washington (5-2), Calgary (6-1), and Tampa (9-3!!!). 2 straight hat tricks in 2 games, one of them featuring Staal with 4 goals. So far the Cole trade definitely isn't hurting us!
