This came from their blog... The fall of 2009 will bring a new DEVO studio album, their first one since 1990's Smooth Noodle Maps. It'll mark their first new music since the strong fan reaction that greeted the 2007 single "Watch Us Work It," their first new song in 18 years and one that was produced by Sweden's TeddyBears (Robyn). They're now in the studio putting the finishing touches on their new album (title TBA)."Watch Us Work It" was outstanding so I hope they can continue on with that vibe. (It's very much along the lines of "Oh No It's Devo") Devo is one of my all time favs. They did de-evolve into more poppy stuff - I never did buy "Total Devo" because I hated "Disco Dancer", or "Smooth Noodle Maps" (I'd lost touch with the band by then). And I wasn't fond of "New Traditionilst" But I adore "Are We Not Men", "Freedom of Choice" and "Oh No it's Devo". "Duty Now For the Future" was solid and (yes) I enjoyed "Shout" (Great version of "Are You Experienced") So I'm happy to hear this news and hope they tour somewhere near me. (though I miss Alan Myers )

I've liked pretty much everything they've ever done, with the exception of Smooth Noodle Maps, and there are parts of that album I enjoy, too. Will have to check this out.

DEV-O is my all time favorite band, so this is of course welcome news! I managed to get myself hired as a publicity photographer for Jerry Casale's solo project "Jihad Jerry and the Evildoers" a couple of years ago, and got to spend an afternoon alone with him, taking pictures of him in his home. I was, understandably, unprepared for how awesome it turned out to be. He's got a really funky art collection, and I was very glad to see that a promo 12" single of "Peek-a-boo" was on his turntable! (I've always disliked the fact that so many artists 'disown' their previous work; here was a guy who actually made music he found himself wanting to listen to, years later!) Jihad Jerry relaxes at home!

Oh my god. You are going to kill me. I have an insanely huge crush on that man. I talked to him and managed to get my picture with him, but I have NO IDEA what I said. I went into this total mental haze. I hope I didn't say anything stupid.
If anyone here thought I had a big crush on Joel... oh man. Sorry Joel, I love you, but I friggen' adore Mr. Casale *drool puddle collects*
AND HOLY HELL, HUGO! I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took about 250 pics of Gerald V. that day, and it was nothing short of awesome. He had a framed photo of Lee Harvey Oswald's assassination on his kitchen wall (which I used as an icebreaker, as I am a big JFK buff) along with the famous picture of the Kent State massacre, which he was caught up in, at the time. Fascinating stuff. While he had a few of the trappings of celebrity (offering me yuppie-sounding coffee-based beverages, etc.) he was nevertheless willing to let a complete stranger into his home to spend an afternoon taking unrehearsed pictures, which was awfully cool.

Wow, that is awesome Hugo.
I saw Devo in Seattle about the time Freedom of Choice was released, Mark threw a small towled he wiped is brow with in the audience and I caught it. I've met Joel H and own Mark Motherbaugh's sweat... my life is complete.

250! That's a buncha pictures. Ohhh boy. I'd probably chop off a limb to be in his house. When I saw DEVO in Akron, I met Mark, Bob 1, and Jerry. The black sweatshirt thing I'm wearing in my avatar hasn't been washed since Jerry put his arm around my waist in it. I am such a creep. I missed seeing Bob 2 though, I had no idea where he went at the after party When I met Joel, I wasn't nervous. I knew what I said to him, so I guess that's good, haha. My life is almost complete, I just need to get a picture with Jello Biafra. I exchanged a few words with him at a spoken word show in 2007, but I don't have a picture. Almost complete, almost complete...

I've met Joel H and own Mark Motherbaugh's sweat... my life is complete. Agreed. I've met 6 of the main cast members of MST3K, all the members of DEV-O (save Alan) and solved a Rubik's cube. Nothing left for me but the sweet release of death!

They also said that "Watch Us Work It" would be on the CD too.
Unfortunately, the band has delayed the release due to "remixing problems." It'll be out sometime mid-2010. (according to Wiki.)
One of my favorite early teen memories was an interview with Mark the day after he spent a night in the Houston Jail, where the cops repeatedly asked the band to sing "whip it" loudly. Mark starts of with a SubGenius rant, causing the interviewer to be completely lost. IIRC it's somewhere on Youtube.
Another one was being at a Devo concert in Dallas in 1983. There was this guy dressed in a Devo dome, a garbage bag, ripped blue jeans and tennis shoes. On the garbage bag he had written in shoe polish "DON'T SHOOT! I'M A MAN!" At the end of that concert, I also saw this stinking drunk girl near the stage door. She was shouting "I LOVE MARK! I LOVE JERRY! I LOVE ALAN! I LOVE BOTH BOBS!"

Love the album cover! I've been a fan of DEVO since I first saw them on SNL. I'm so glad they've released new material, and the stuff I've heard is FANTASTIC!! Highly recommended from an Old Geezer!

IT IS AWESOME! Sure it lacks some bite and it's no "Are We Not Men", but it's infectious and hell of a lot of fun. And Motherbaugh's vocals are tight. He must have taken the wayback machine. I am suprised We Can Work It is not on the album. Replacing the weaker "Mind Games" with it, would have made it just that much better (plus I wish we had Signal Ready) - But I guess they will be releasing all the tracks on itunes and on CD some day. I went to look at their tour.... they aint coming nowhere near me! Gasp - Seattle was one of their biggest fan basses so I'm shocked and bummed. But so much fun Devo stuff today, like the listening party... for cats! LMAO
