It's a great interview; he is obviously a fan of the show, and gives frank, direct answers.
Bummer to hear about some of the episodes that may never get official release (especially Final Sacrifice).

Good interview (though some of the questions used could have been better). I've updated my Likelihood list, very surprising to hear about FINAL SACRIFICE and the odd Canada situation with the Lippert films.

Excelent interview, though the BluRay question couldn't have been more obvious. What would MST have to gain by going BluRay?
"Wow! Look at the amazing crystal clear picture of that grainy, fuzzy movie!"
I think it's safe to say MST will only go Blu if it starts to emerge as the new top format. And that was my impression before I read the interview.

Good interview, but regarding the first question, why would anyone want Shout to release episodes that Rhino has put out? I'd rather have all-unreleased episodes in the new DVD sets than, say, a THIRD version of "Manos".

I myself really only have the last few Rhino volumes as well as volumes 1 and 3. I'm missing the rest. I'd love it if Shout Factory was able to re-release some of those episodes, or maybe re-release the volumes themselves. No offense, but anyone who is against the idea of SF "double dipping" previous episodes is a tad inconsiderate.

The only reason I could see for putting a standard definition-shot TV show like MST3K on BluRay would be from a storage-size standpoint - you'd be able to get a quite a few episodes on a single BluRay. But I don't think the benefit would outweigh the cost (especially since BluRay is still pretty niche right now).

That's true. Though, I would figure that the rights to the films themselves would keep the prices pretty much the same though.

Yeah, even on DVD you start noticing how bad some of the TV masters they used were (some had to be VHS quality), not even mentioning the prints used to make the TV masters.

No offense, but anyone who is against the idea of SF "double dipping" previous episodes is a tad inconsiderate. I think double dipping would be okay for episodes that went out of print due to rights issues, like Volume 9. But there's no need to re-release other episodes from Rhino's volumes when they are still available for purchase. I went and checked out www.deepdiscount.com, and there are plenty of volumes still available (all the ones that you mentioned you didn't have), and they're often cheaper than Amazon. So it's not like they've all just been put back in the "Disney Vault" just because Shout! has taken over the reins now. So you still have time to pick them up. So long as that's the case, I don't think Shout needs to rush the double dipping. There are plenty of other unreleased episodes they can get out before they have to start worrying about Rhino extinction. But yeah, that was a great interview. I feel confident that the show is in capable hands. Though that news about Final Sacrifice is a real downer, I look forward to all the extras they'll put on their sets!

I doubt any of us would mind eventual double dipping--as long as it's not 'shady' double dipping (ie., releasing a set with 2 Rhino released eps and 2 new eps). But heck, I could care less if, down the road, they fall back on re-releasing some Rhinos. As long as they're not doing anything tricky to make me re-buy something in order to get something I don't have. I definitely don't get the vibe that SF would do this.
