I was watching Outlaw, based on the book Outlaw of Gor, a couple of days ago and remembered that I have some Gor books in my collection, somewhere. I also have the book Phase 4 but I can't remember if it was written before or after the movie. I haven't reread either book in years.
Has anyone actually read any of the books and were the books as bad as the movies or were the movies just terrible remakes of pretty good books?

I recall looking up info on the Gor series when I watched Outlaw for the first time. Reviews of the series made the books sound even more awful than the movie.
I'm not sure about anything else. I think Diabolik was based upon a comic book that's supposedly pretty popular.

^Yeah, Daibolik is a popular French comic book character.

Phase 4 was written after the movie. The guy who did the novelization is actually a favorite writer of mine: Barry Malzberg. He did the novelization under a pseudonym for cash.
And I think some dude wrote Hamlet before they turned it into a movie. (Okay, it was a play, but still...)
_Overdrawn at the Memory Bank_ was based a short story by John Varley, who's a big name in mid century science fiction. I think the story's by the same name, but I can't remember. (The credits to the movie give it, but I can't check now.)

Village of the Giants and Riding with Death were (loosely) based on stories by H.G. Wells.
Marooned was a novel before it was a movie. There are two versions of the novel, one based off of the Gemini program and one based on the Apollo program after the movie was released. I have not read either version, nor do I own them.
I thought Diabolik was an Italian comic book character, not French.

I can't believe that none of you have read Truman Capote's Attack of the Giant Leeches. Philistines.

I've always wanted to get a hold of "A Taste For Honey", which became the heart rending blockbuster The Deadly Bees.
How do you tell a killer bee from a normal bee anyway? They always seem kinda irritated.
