Looks like the 1944 Bela Lugosi movie Voodoo Man is up next for the video-on-demand riffing with Mike, Kevin, and Bill. Link;D I for one am happy to see as many old movies as possible from these guys. Unfortunately, not even wikipedia has an article on this film - anyone seen it?

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about... Some good ole (really old) cheese for the Rifftrax guys. AND its VOD! I hope they do the "Burn to Disc" option again on this one. I don't know anything about this movie, but I watched the trailer online and it reminds me of the old Bela Lugosi serials or The Corpse Vanishes from the early MST3k days. Very exciting that they are going to do a Lugosi film! Hoorah! Here's the link to the trailer of VOO DOO MAN! www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmOG-DRXG7A

This is classic cheese. I have a gray market boot leg of it but to my knowledge this film is not public domain, so I'm a little surprised they're doing this one. It's one of the two poverty row horror films Bela did (Return of the Ape Man being the other) that you cant find on a normal DVD.
Any way, it features Bela Lugosi (Phantom Creeps, Bride of the Monster) playing Bela Lugosi who is trying to bring his deceased wife back to life via soul transference. Poor Bela relies on George Zucco (Mad Monster) to get the unwitting women he needs for the voodoo ceremony. Zucco plays a gas station owner (?!) who sets up a detour sign to lure the unsuspecting victims down the wrong road where they are then jumped my some ugly dude and another guy played by John Carradine. (The Unearthly)
Zucco apparently moonlights as a voodoo priest when he's not pumping gas and he dons some silly face paint and mumbles all sorts of mumbo-jumbo while Bela just kind of sits there looking like Bela and John Carradine pounds away off tempo on some drums while they try to revive the dead wife lady. The ceremony always fails and the women turn into mindless zombies so Bela stores them in upright glass coffins so he can heat them up as left-overs later on or something.
It's worth mentioning that Carradine plays a simpleton in this film and this might be one of the most demeaning roles in his carrier. Same goes for Zucco. Bela comes off better than the rest because he's Bela Lugosi. There's also a plot of some sort but that's all you really need to know.
I can't wait for this to come out. Bela, Carradine, Zucco, zombies, poverty row film making; this will be epic.

I don't think they ever explicitly said it was PD they just said it wasn't on DVD before and they did their own transfer. I wouldn't be surprised to see it show up as a Legend colorized release down the road. They have gotten certain rights for things before. Like Troll 2. You can download it as VOD.

Yes, we bought a film element for our own conversion to DVD, and yes it will have a Burn-to-DVD option

I'm in. I got burn to disc last time and it was worth it. (Although there was that little issue of the occasional jitters in the video. Hopefully you guys have figured that out for this time around.)
Here's to many more cheesy old pre-mixed eps.
BTW, torgospizza, if you can say, how were sales of Planet of Dinosaurs? Did the burn-to-DVD sell well? Do you think you pulled in any old Misties?

I'm actually not sure. I'm fairly certain that it did well enough to warrant doing more of them this way. I think Voodoo Man will be the real test. I'm also pretty sure we got some old MSTies who maybe are new to the site, but again it's sort of hard to tell. Feedback seemed generally positive for Dinos, and especially the Burnable Download option, so we'll see how this one compares. Also, here's the IMDb page for it: www.imdb.com/title/tt0037441/

That's great news!
My next request would be a skit or two as a DVD extra on them, maybe an intro and an outro. Then we'd be back to full on complete package that The Film Crew was (which I think we're great).
I mean c'mon, who didn't think that the "DANCE!" skit didn't add to the riffing experience.
Either way, two thumbs up from me on RiffTrax' recent work.

Just FYI the VOD is out now, HOWEVER: there is no mpeg-2, nor is there the download-to-burn option YET. We just finished the render of the mpeg-2, and a HIGHER-QUALITY mpeg-2 is being rendered for output to the DVD Image we'll be providing for download-to-burn.
They should both be available tomorrow, by the time we send out the email blast. Wanted you guys to hear it from me first, though.

Glad to hear that the Download to Burn option is on its way. I am a huge advocate for the Download to Burn option and I prefer stuffing instead of potatoes. I realize that these are just my opinions, but I really needed to get these feelings off of my chest, because they've been weighing on me. Also, FYI, the kids on the street are calling the Download to Burn option: D 2 the bizzee. So, I really think this thing is catching on. Keep up the great work!

Quick update, we're taking the product down for the time being while we figure out what to do about the audio. It seemed fine in editing but the rendered files on the server appear to have been rendered with some audio ducking quirks.
We're discussing what to do (release as-is or redo them all.... will probably end up redoing them). I'll post back here when I have more info.

Rats! Oh well... better to wait a little longer and have it done right then quickly and have it all wrong. This looks like a great one... The sample was hilarious! Can't wait!

Agreed. I'll gladly wait for the better version. Better quality is the main reason why I buy the D 2 the bizzee version.
