I live in the Northeast and get Comcast, so I don't know how widespread this is. I recently noticed on my channel lineup (on a channel that used to be a shopping channel) that Comcast added what is known as RTV - Retro Television Network. Most of the early part of the day is taken up by paid programming, but later in the day they start showing some old shows. They've shown things that don't interest me at all, like Amen, The A Team, Quincy, Knight Rider and such. They also are showing some things that have me feeling a bit nostalgic - The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries - wow that's an acid flashback. Buck Rogers and the original Battlestar Galactica (take THAT SyFy!) And - get this - they also showed some local homegrown creature-feature-complete-with-wacky-hosts ala Elvira and uh - I forget the names of other hosts that used to do that sort of thing. It was called Midnight Monster Hop and had a ghoulish family hosting (Grizelda, Skully, were some of the names). From the address they showed on screen where you can write to them, I see they were based out of Pennsylvania. (I think it had a website). The movie they showed was none other than one featuring our good friend (and friend to children everywhere) Gamera. It was "Destroy All Planets". Pretty cool. Came complete with bad acting and worse jokes: What do you find between Godzilla's toes? ----- Slow runners. Probably didn't need to start a whole thread for this, but I just thought it was pretty neat that such a channel was found. I'll have to look on it's website to see their schedule, don't feel like sitting for an hour watching TV Guide channel to find out what's coming on next. (There was some other show on that I thought it was cool that they were playing, but I forget what it was). Anyone else stumble upon this gem?

Here is a list of their shows www.myretrotv.com/shows.htmlI notice that one of the shows is called RTV Mystery Theater, which is what used to be called The NBC Mystery Movie.. I recognize McCloud ! *crosses fingers* going to contact local comcast affiliate to have them get this network on now

I remembered the other show they had on that I thought was cool that they were showing - I, Spy. According to their programming schedule they also show Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Night Gallery, The Virginian, Wagon Train, Jack Benny. Awesome. They show Voyagers, too, but not in my area. I wonder why they have a different lineup for different parts of the country? Why not just show the same things everywhere? I also noticed that the programming schedule they have listed for my state is not actually what's on on my tv. They have way more shows listed than they play, most of the day where I am is paid programming (as it is right now) and they don't start having actual shows on until 6 pm. Grr. And on the TV Guide Network they have I, Spy listed as starting at 6, but it's a different show on RTV's schedule. They don't even have I, Spy listed at all as even being on there. I do notice a date on the bottom of the screen as 7/8/09. Maybe they haven't updated or something. ? Wonder what's up with that. Wish more of those shows were actually playing instead of commercials. Maybe as time goes by they'll expand their programming. It seems Midnight Monster Hop is a regular Saturday night thing, heh.

After the DTV conversion this is a free channel connected to NBC.
I'll have to watch the midnight horror show.

I gets it for free! I watched Buck Rogers and Night gallery the other day... pretty cool! I get a few weird channels now over the air, like some channel called Create and this other PBS channel that always shows these cool documentaries about weird stuff in PA...

Hmmm. Very strange. I can see my TV from my computer and I was half watching last night. Saw the opening credits. Saw the OR scene, the main guy and his fiancee driving scene, the gathering of Jan's head in a blanket scene. Saw Jan in the pan. Then, when next I looked up - it was a different movie!!! Wha happa? I didn't see the transition. The hosts weren't talking about it. The name of the new movie wasn't mentioned during the breaks, and because it was an old movie, it just said, "The End" at the end and didn't identify the name of the movie then, either.
Did anyone else watch? Was there some kind of glitch where they had to switch movies? What the Sam Scratch was going on??!!!

Midnight Monster Hop ( www.midnightmonsterhop.com/ ) looks good, but I do miss Off Beat Cinema ( www.offbeatcinema.com/ ) which was on the local Atlanta RTN station (DTV 2.2) until about January 2009 when it simply disappeared from the schedule.

I was excited about this channel when I first discovered it a few months ago. I got even more excited when I found they were showing several old shows I've been wanting to watch for a long time. I have since lost interest however. I tried watching the old Ben Gazzara show Run for your life on three different occasions. Each time the picture and sound quality was so bad that I couldn't make it through the episode. Ditto with a couple of episodes of the Virginian I tried to watch. If all the copies of these 60's TV shows are of this poor quality, it's no wonder they haven't popped up on DVD yet.

It is kind of getting old already. I know getting the rights to old shows is probably difficult, but they just keep showing the same shows, every week night. I hate that. Can't they show something different on different nights? I guess they don't have the money.
Reruns of PD eps of MST3K would be nice. ;D

I've come to the conclusion that Comcast is run by a bunch of cheap bastards. In my area, it says on the TV Guide Network that RTV is supposed to have Midnight Monster Hop at this time on Saturday nights. But it's paid programming!!! (That's what it was last week as well). What are WE paying for? If all these advertisers are paying for these spots, shouldn't we be paying LESS for cable, not more? (That applies at the movie theaters, too - why are movies so expensive if we watch a bunch of commercials beforehand? Aren't the advertisers paying big bucks to put those up? Why does the consumer get screwed?) We're paying for commercials. Wow, great. Guess I can't enjoy this channel anymore. That's basically all it is, is commercials.
