I saw this one last night with the boyfriend (I guess you could say I spent Valentine's evening with hairy palms... heh) and I have to say, I really liked it. I'm a horror freak and I love the original, and I think this is a pretty good companion film to the Lon Chaney version. First and foremost, I loved the werewolf design; it's so hard to pull off a convincing and scary werewolf IMO, and a lot of films fail in this respect (especially in our CGI-happy culture) but Rick Baker was at the helm, so I'm sure that helped. (Also the fact that Benecio Del Toro kind of looks like the wolfman to begin with)... I was quite pleased with the gore. They didn't chince on the flying limbs and eviscerations, that's for sure. I liked the cast with the exception of Emily Blunt; Anthony Hopkins is always interesting to watch, and I will automatically watch Hugo Weaving in anything. And I thought that while his performance wasn't perfect, Del toro was good (and he was hot).
My boyfriend laughed at the ending. For once, I wasn't the cold-hearted one in the audience.
