Gahh, this one was frightening.
The idea of toys coming to life isn't always INHERENTLY frightening (Toy Story doesn't creep me out) but something about this stop-motion nightmare was creepy.

I think its interesting that these are studio versions of the same scripts presented at the live show. There is a call back to Christmas Rhapsody right at the beginning of this one.

The other shorts at the show? Lets see there was the pork short (with Weird Al) and the one about swimming... that's the only others I can remember. I think I'll wait for the DVD. After watching this show live, then CT and Plan 9 live DVDs... I went and listened to the free short they gave us and that one just didn't work for me, I missed the audience reactions. I got so used to it, it felt empty without them.

I was curious if they were going to release anymore Christmas shorts this week, because I'm purchasing and compiling all of them onto a watchable DVD for holiday viewing and I didn't want to burn the DVD and have another one released today or tomorrow. Thanks again, T?P?MJ?

I hope they release the pork short. I thought it was hilarious. I'm sure they'll release it at some point. I'm just curious if they'll release it before Christmas... it would be super cool if they released a studio version with Weird Al, but I'm sure they won't.

I was informed by someone on the Rifftrax forum that there was another Christmas themed short called The Night Before Christmas. Was this the 30's Disney Cartoon short or another live action short?

It was the live-action one. It was kind of overshadowed by some of the more surreal ones like "Visit to Santa", "Christmas Rhapsody" and "A Christmas Dream" (not to mention the "I need you tonight" line in "Rudolph"), but it had some really great riffs in it. May have had one of my favorite individual riffs of the night (let's just say it involves Santa and a toy shovel).

Well, I'm glad they didn't do the Disney short, because they surely wouldn't be able to release that one. A Christmas Dream looks like an absolute nightmare and Rudolph (based on the sample) looks hilarious. I actually watched A Christmas Dream, the un-riffed version and that is one scary mama-jama of a short. I've purchased all the shorts and I'm saving them up for Christmas viewing... I can't wait! I was just curious if Rifftrax was going to drop anymore shorts on us this week. I hope they do... that would be a true Christmas miracle.

Oh, you and your love of the live audience... I'll never understand it It goes back, back, back, all the waaaaay back to the 60s, with my Smothers Brothers, Bill Cosby ect albums. That audience laughter added to my fun. (even modern stuff like Red Dwarf, I prefer the live seasons with the audience reactions) And good ol' mst3ktemple. Thanks for the info, I knew we could count on you for the details (my mind/memory isn''t what it used to be) So is anyone noticing difference in the rifffs on these (live vs studio)? I didn't hear any on the little tree short, but there were some differences on the previous shows Stewardess short, so it was nice to own both of those.

I'd almost forgotten that Red Dwarf originally had the audience. I don't know why it bothers me so... regardless, I believe my better half bought CT's East Meets Watts for me as one of my Christmas gifts, so I guess I'll find out soon enough if and/or how much I hate the sounds of laughter Out of curiosity, I wonder if Rifftrax will release The Night Before Christmas short on Christmas Eve? Which is, in fact, the night before Christmas. That would be a nice Christmas present.

You nailed it Sirhamhat. That short is indeed now available. And we can add to the info above that The Night Before Christmas short came out in 1946.
