Okay, deep breath. Despite the mythological inaccuracies (yes, I'm one of those people) and the Harry Hamlin of it all, I LOVE the original movie. Flying horses, men stabbing things, togas, even that stupid metal owl. And layered over everything the joy that was Ray Harryhausen. It's a movie that is hard to hate. But now, a remake. A Kraken that looks like the Cloverfield monster (or in my brother's words, "Godzilla got it on with a squid?")? Terminator Prime as Perseus? Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson in one of the most oddly amusing on-screen reunions of all time? My inner mythnerd is confused too. What's with all the extraneous gods and goddesses, but leaving out a few that actually had something to do with the story? And why is Hades the bad guy anyway? Is it just Hollywood laziness? Shall I just make myself happy and beat the director with my Bullfinch's? I need answers, please!

What's worse to me is that Harryhausen used different Greek legends to create his story. So instead of re-making this movie, couldn't they have created their own version of a movie based on Greek legends? Laziness does seem to be the key word in Hollywood. It's all about the cgi now. (I wonder what stuntmen will be doing in a few years?)
The TV spots make me think it's the bastard child of Gladiator, 300, Cloverfield and Godzilla:The Hollywood Version. And with the same putrid dialogue and acting; the larger than life and indestructible, macho man, action film acting. It's making me yearn for the confused Perseus that Harry Hamlin played.
BTW, Ray Harryhausen has stated he's fine with others re-making his movies. I salute him for that, but I wish he would stand up for his vision a little bit more. He can be just a tad too humble at times.

Sigh. I too love the original Clash in all its cheesy and inaccurate glory. I especially loved the stop-motion Medusa and Calibos. It doesn't surprise me that some miscreant has remade it with all the CGI bells and whistles. It depresses me, but it doesn't surprise me. I won't be seeing it. Hmph.

I love the original cheesy movie. I will probably go and see this new version though, cause I have no life.
