Watched about a half-dozen shorts last week. It had been a while since I'd watched any RT, so I thought I'd do some shorts. They were all pretty entertaining, but the two that stood out:
Join Hands, Let's Go What the heck was this even supposed to be? Was it something teachers would put on when it was raining and the kids couldn't go outside for recess? Off-putting insanity. The guy in the main role made me squirm.
Setting Up A Room This one had me laughing. I was confused by just what level classroom this was supposed to be. Kindergarten? First or second grade? If that's the case, what's with the woodworking bench? My memory isn't the best, but I don't remember using wood tools in kindergarten. The teachers talk about wearing goggles, too. I'm assuming it's all play tools (like whatever it is they were having the kids do with the ironing boards), but to me that's weird.
Good stuff. And the price is always right.

I watched the first volume of shorts for the umteenth time last night. Knowing I had to go grocery shopping all day I kept thinking about impulse buying.

Just watched "How Much Affection." It just occurred to me--the actress playing the girl who almost went all the way is really pretty good. Kinda understated and sincere performance for a movie of this kind. I wonder who she was; no credits in IMDb. i clicked around a bit on google, but... no names.

I cued up a whole bunch of shorts yesterday; it was a lazy Saturday, I didn't really feel like doing anything but playing games, and I often use MST3K or Rifftrax as background entertainment. I haven't been buying shorts lately so everything I watched is kind of old. Just a few comments:
"One Got Fat" makes me want to punch Fractured Fairy Tale Guy in the nose. And it's ruined "Rocky and Bullwinkle" for me, too, because now Horton's narration doesn't seem whimsical at all to me any more, just smug and sanctimonious like in "One Got Fat".
The lesson of "Each Child Is Different": if you're good at sports, you'll be fine even if you're illiterate. Otherwise you might as well put a bullet in your skull.
"Know for Sure" must be the best acted short that Rifftrax has ever featured: Ward Bond and Tim Holt both pop up, uncredited.
The prospect of "Going Steady" is like receiving a sentence of death, as it seems from the reactions of the young lovers in the short. I get the impression from this and other shorts that a well-behaved adolescent was supposed to date lots of different kids because it was a sign you were keeping everything superficial and safe and never spending much time with any one person. Dating one kid exclusively was a bad sign that you were too emotionally involved (i.e. might want to have sex.)
"Understanding Your Ideals" left me thoroughly gobsmacked. If there's anyone stupider in any Rifftrax material than the kid in that short, I can't think of who. He does nothing but ramble on and on about how popular he wants to be, and when he throws a tantrum and stands up his girlfriend, what does he do? Run off to a public place to lecture his buddies on how to be popular! The fact that he fancies himself the model of popularity while wearing pants hitched up to his armpits and a bow-tie bigger than the Spruce Goose just makes it all more delicious, almost as delicious as when everyone's making fun of him at the malt shop and he looks about two seconds away from crying like a baby.

^well said.
understanding your ideals is one of my favorites. why does that kid have a picture of the most popular kid in school on his wall, anyway? i think there could be underlying issues perhaps only the family dog has been privy to.
the only other thing i can say is: give george some more beans.

Just saw the Goodbye, Weeds! short they released yesterday, was quite a hoot! Almost made me feel sorry for some of those poor weeds. Also, this is the first thing I've bought from RiffTrax (Hey I'm still new to all this, gotta start somewhere), glad to see that Mike & co. still got it.

Shorts-A-Thon! I was a mood for something funny, and so I watched a few of the early shorts... and haven't stopped. It has been great fun revisiting these.

Setting Up a Room.
Teacher: By the way, (clears throat), did you see a dog carriage around? Other Teacher: Uh, yes, there's one in the storage closet. Bill: I also saw a lot of rat skeletons.

Well, I just bought and watched my first ever Rifftrax short. It was overdue (and thanks, in part, to Rifftrax sending me not one but *two* coupons.)
Anyway, I watched Santa And The Fairy Snow Queen. It was... odd. A lot of good riffs, especially near the start of it, but it felt like it started losing steam nearer the end. And I don't really blame Mike, Kevin and Bill for that; the movie was, well... shocking. And as long as the movie kept introducing new, shocking elements then the riffs were great. After new things stopped being added, though, the jokes could only work with what we'd already been joking about so far.
So, all in all a fun short to watch, but I don't think I'll mark it down as a favorite.
As a side note, I was surprised by how quiet everything was. I had to turn off my AC to make sure I was understanding most of the movie's lines.

I haven't purchased a Rifftrax in years. In fact I had some credit left over I'd forgotten about, so this bundle was cheaper than expected.
The funniest... A Day with Fireman Bill, Six Murderous Beliefs, What Mary Jo Wanted (with MJ and Bridget)
These were satisfactory... Spunky the Snowman, The Water We Drink, Glasses for Susan, The Hothead / The Forgetter, Willy Whistle

I can't get enough of the Kids' Guide to the Internet! I was a kid when all those internet guides came out so on the one hand, I was familiar with how it all went. But this was so funny. "You got banned from Twitch for racial slurs!" had me laughing hysterically.
