I didn't see this posted anywhere else, and it could have gone in a number of places on this board (TV, Movies, MST3K, Sports). So I thought I'd throw it in here as it's kind of a catch-all. sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nfl/news/story?id=4985470I knew him from television and film, but I did know he was a heck of a football player. Rest well, sir.

As a member of the Rams Fearsom Foresome, the guy was an amazing defensive player ( I still chuckle when I think of him speaking about his exasperation in trying to catch that damn Frank Tarkenton (the scrambling QB prototype).
And of course, his epic battle with Joe Don is the stuff of legend. Another part of my youth has passed. Rest in peace Merlin.

He was a great football player and I remember him on NBC doing color commentary with Dick Enberg on NFL games in the 80's. A very nice man who will be missed. RIP Merlin.

Oh no, not Father Murphy. I always liked his character on Little House, and those FTD commercials. He seemed like a swell guy.

My fondest memories of him are from watching the Broncos while I was growing up in Chicago. He and Dick Enberg always had the AFC West games. Great color man in the booth.
But he was a lousy butler.

This is very sad news. I enjoyed his work on Little House, and I also liked Father Murphy. RIP Merlin.

I am old enough to remember him as a defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams. He was great, a member of the Hall of Fame in fact. Also a Hall of Fame broadcaster and an all around nice guy from what I understand. Lousy butler but if he served Mitchell Scotch by the quart he can't be all bad...
Rest in Peace Merlin
