This is the Way the World Ends by James Morrow 1986 - this would be a good one Tim Burton could handle.

I don't think Death Rat would work. The characters are too cartoony to work in real life, though the book is great. Besides, who would you get to play Pontius Feeb? They'd probably cast Woody Allen.

The characters arn't any more cartoony than those you'd see in a Kevin Smith movie. Mike in some old guy make-up could play Pontius, but the perfect guy to play King Leo is without a doubt Chris Tucker.

It would be cool if we had some half-way famous person to play Ponty, but he wouldn't be as neurotic as Woody Allen, and King Leo seems more slightly younger Issac Hayes-y to me. Now I am definitely not going to direct Death Rat.

If I casted this movie: Ponty: Mike Nelson, Leslie Neilson, or Mel Brooks Jack: Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson (What? Young, muscular, and easy on the eyes) Gus: Michael Keaton or Bruce Campbell Sandi: Bidget Jones (if Mike Nelson) or Jamie Lee Curtus (if anyone else) King Leo: CHRIS TUCKER! AND ONLY CHRIS TUCKER!

NO!! NOT CHRIS TUCKER!! CHRIS TUCKER'S VOICE IS TOO ANNOYING!!! King Leo is more sultry, not a skinny pipsqueak, and thus Issac Hayes would be a near perfect choice. Ponty: Mel Brooks is too old and famous, as is Leslie Nelsen. I picture Ponty as more of middle-aged. (Sorry) I haven't seen enough people to know what i want as Ponty. Jack: NOT THE ROCK. We need a good actor. Not to muscular, taller than average. Not sure who yet for him, either. Gus: Maybe. Sandi: Older Actress needed. Stig: Random actual Danish actor. Well, at least I have a vision?

And the way it's described, he looks older than that. The Rock is a decent actor. I was impressed with what he did in the Rundown (not even Michael Clarke Duncun could do much with the Scropion King's diologue, so I cross that out). Jamie Lee Curtis is in her 40's. How much older does she need to be?

And I KNOW King Leo is annoying, but he is that way without knowing it. It is not it the voice, it is in what he does. Chris Tucker is too typecast in that type of role, and I am looking for natural-y comedy, not Rush Hour-y comedy. (Only I know what I'm saying) Ponty may be old age, but PLEASE: Not too famous people. I usually go against the book a lot. I am zany, and that equals creativity. But Definetly No on the Rock one. Just, no.

Mike Nelson isn't that famous, and Leslie Neilson went direct to video a long time ago. Many people probably think he's dead. I'm flexable on the Rock, but it just struck me as a good role for him to play.

Nelson in the film.

I once heard Mike say that he's would love to write a screenplay for it. I think he'd say "Why not?" It would be a nice change of pace after standing next to puppets for 5 1/2 years.

I don't know if any of you are into Terry Prachett's goofy sci-fi, but I'd love to see his Thief of Time done as a movie. It's got his usual brand of eccentric characters, but there's actually a compelling plot in this one.

On the subject of casting "Death Rat", the only comment that I'll make is that my Dad always saw/heard that Putty guy from Seinfeld (can't think of his real name) as Jack. I personally didn't, but I think he could probably pull it off.
I'd like to see a movie based on one of the Dragon Riders of Pern novels. I think we're finally at a point where the Special Effects could be pulled off.
