I just finished Dennis Perrin's book on writer Michael O'Donoghue ("Phoebe Zeitgeist," "National Lampoon Magazine," early "SNL," etc.) One of the most interesting parts was O'Donoghue ranting about his "Scrooged" screenplay and how director Richard Donner ruined the film (using only about 40% of his script, eliminating subtler material and going for big broad laughs, etc.) He also loathed Bill Murray's improv ending, remarking on the set, "What was that? The Jim Jones Hour?" LOL
While I enjoyed parts of "Scrooged," I'd be interested to read O'Donoghue's original script to see what the film might have been.
