Thanks for the kind words everyone. It really makes it worthwhile.
I think SCCtM, SFI, and TWWoB are especially brilliant. Batwoman looks exactly how I'd imagine a Criterion of that movie to look.
I actually felt a little guilty about the Santa Claus one. I'd already made it from a piece of art that mummifiedstalin posted in his freaky Xmas thread. When I was brainstorming ideas for Santa Claus, it was too easy to just throw some text on it. Creepy is the name of the game for that movie, so it was either that or make a drawing of the lips. Laziness won that day.
As for the "Criteriony" feel of them, that's something I've noticed as well. For some of them, I get an idea that I can't resist, even if it looks more like a book jacket than a Criterion cover. I figure if it makes the movie look overly self important, it works. Criterion uses a lot of custom artwork and high quality photography/screen captures, and I just don't have the skill for the former or access to the latter.
I'm glad Batwoman got a response because I really like the way it came out. Most of the time, a simple Google image search is enough for a fun cover, but when I'm motivated I like to spend a little more time on it. It's not like I had to draw it from scratch, but getting it just right takes a little time. The Invasion USA cover falls into this category as well. It doesn't look that special, but all I started with was a Soviet propaganda poster with a marching man and a hammer/sickle from their flag. It's one of my favorites simply because of what went into making it. I'm also obsessed with Russian history so that probably has a lot to do with it.
I kept laughing while making that. I could listen to Cornjob jokes all day.
And, for having to suffer through that long post, and even for those who skimmed it, here's a reward.
but Santa Claus just raised the bar. I don't know how Criteriony it is, but it's great.
Is that Santa Claus art borrowed from elsewhere, or did you do that?

This is my favorite, so far...
