Cutezilla & O'Tannenbug DID NOT duke it out on the World Trade Center....in fact none of the film took place anywhere NEAR The Big Apple. Jet Jaguar & Gigan are nowhere to be seen. (I'm aware they were trying a tie-in with Dino DeLaurentis' King Kong remake but still....) i remember this specific poster from when i was a kid and GvM was in first run. i remember finding it quite captivating (and yeah, they're riding on king kong but having two monsters, one on each tower, was a nice twist). the twin towers were a bit of a fad back then because they'd just been made not long ago, and there was a bit of a scandal because some people loved them, other people thought they were bland and ugly and ruined the skyline, which after all was mostly much more ornamental architecture. anyway, i can't remember if i managed to talk my folks into letting me see this one, but i saw a lot of godzilla movies in theaters when i was a kid. the thing people tend to forget, i think, is how great these movies looked on the big screen in their anamorphic ratios, where the battle scenes actually have a sense of scope and grandeur. they really don't survive the transition to TV screens, cuz, you know, there's no substitute for hugeness.
