I was hoping this post was about Trumpy, but that vid was good. The dramatic shot of ET running out of the closet was hilarious.
ET also disturbed me as a kid. So much strange lighting, so many faceless men in plastic suits... I barely remember the film, but I guess that was probably the point; authority figures on earth are far more evil and terrifying than any alien invader.

taxi driver as a romcom and mary poppins as supernatural thriller are also primo samples of this craft.

One of the first I saw, and still my favorite, is the happy-go-lucky version of the Shining. It was such a great parody of the seemingly endless line of trailers coming out using "Solsbury Hill" to highlight their terrible film.
