Ignoring the fact that this thread will likely contain seven "They should've been cancelled years ago" posts and three "They're not bad anymore, but I don't see the point" posts, I thought I'd say that I thought that the 500th Episode tonight was fun.
Naturally, Spoilers are Ahead.
I don't often get to see their new episodes (Sunday nights are way too busy for me), but I caught a break this week and found out about the episode. Decided to watch it.
I was worried that the plot would have a too-easy resolution as the third act was starting, but they stepped over it relatively easily and got a better ending. I doubt that the shake-up to the status quo in this episode will remain to the beginning of the next one (or if it does remain it won't get anything more than a throwaway gag...which is probably appropriate), and a brief Kelsey Grammer cameo provided my favorite moment in the show overall, I think.
All in all, it was enjoyable. And certainly better than anything else I saw tonight (at least until the PBS station started running a Dr. Who episode.)

I didn't get a chance to watch it. But it's on my DVR waiting for me. I'll get to it tomorrow.

I just finished watching it, and it wasn't bad. Thought the blackboard gag was good, as was the couch gag. The story revolved around the town throwing the Simpsons out, which they probably could have done many years ago, given the behavior of Homer and Bart. Anyway, I thought it was an overall decent show.

Ah, Homer and Bart aren't too bad...not when compared to the evil designs of Marge.

Three hundred episodes too many IMHO.
(But I'll still be sorry when they finally cancel it anway.)

Just gave it a looksee. Found it a bit middling. Better than the 300th episode (both the real one and the fake one), but not up to snuff with the 100th and 200th, both of which were much more solid.
I don't remember the 400th episode. I know I saw it, but all I recall from it was that it centered on Brockman.
The plot reminded me too much of the Simpsons Movie. It was effective enough for a milestone episode, but I wish they had picked something more original. Didn't much care for the ending, except the small card at the end. That was pretty funny.
Highlight: The reasoning why Marge is the worst Simpson of them all. It's funny because it's true.

Three hundred episodes too many IMHO. (But I'll still be sorry when they finally cancel it anway.) I'm sure if Matt Groening had his way, the show would *never* be cancelled, and we'd be making a thread talking about the show's 900th episode.... This belongs in the Controversial Opinions thread I know, but Matt should have ended the show, at the very latest, after the movie. The movie should have been the huge sendoff the show needed.

Eh. If they ended it then, then the sendoff wouldn't have included either Sideshow Bob or Hank Scorpio. And using one of those two for the conclusion is on my wishlist (although to be honest, using Scorpio again would be really, really hard to do properly.)

I think I heard that the villain of the movie was originally going to be Scorpio, but they created an entirely new character for whatever reason.

Like I indicated, I'm torn. On the one hand, I'd like the series to end simply because the new eps have fallen far shy of the high water mark set long ago.
On the other hand...
If Fox axes The Simpsons, what do they replace it with? More MacFarlane garbage? I'd rather sit through another iffy Homer ep than have to endure some idiot The Quagmire Show spin-off or something worse.
Sad to say, The Simpsons still towers over 90% of the sitcoms the networks are producing now, animated or live action.

I've never honestly bought into the MacFarlane hate, because it seems to me that most people who hate him either: a) Hate him because it's the "cool thing to do" nowadays... (See the hate for Dane Cook as well for another example) or b) Are bitter Simpsons fans who are mad that their glory days are far, far, far behind.
Now don't get me wrong, not everything Seth does is gold (*Cough*TheClevelandShow*Cough*), but American Dad and Family Guy, while not perfect, to me are light years ahead of The Simpsons episodes of *now*. (Again, controversial opinion...)

I'm with you GProopdog that Family Guy is much better than the current Simpsons. In its prime, The Simpsons might have been the best animated show ever.
The Cleveland Show sucks.
