sad. he was one of the last greats we still had around. i'm not a big fan of country, but it was hard not to like jones - like johnny cash, i always thought he was a rock star of country. out of all of his hits, the one i like the most.

oh, thank you for posting that, crowfan!! i just happened to catch it while watching squidbillies not too long ago, and it took me a minute to realize it was really jones singing. i especially loved the "krystal, hotter than a two dollar pistol - i'm fixin' to stop loving you today." then him singing the original theme to the show was just perfect.
jones was usually always a good sport, if anything. his voice was shot by the end. it is the opinion of my program director that he should have stopped touring years ago, but i don't think the quality of his voice mattered to the real fans - jones just showing up was good enough.
i missed the intro he did as well.
i was talking to my dad about him friday, and we were talking about my aunt, who was a huge jones fan back in the day. he was coming to do a concert in her hometown, which flipped her out - she couldn't wait to see him. but she never did - they waited two hours before someone announced jones wouldn't be appearing. he had fallen while getting out of the airplane and they had to take him to the hospital. if anything, he was always good for a story.

I also didn't realize he was singing the main theme of the show for awhile either. I was just glad I could find the clip. I thought it was really cool.

well, george jones had a hell of a send off. i had to run the board earlier for a live thing we were doing, so i watched most of his funeral on tv. i honestly didn't think i'd watch much, but it was a really great tribute to him, i thought. many spoke about him - from tennessee's guv'nor, bill haslam and laura bush to kid rock, barbara mandrell, randy travis and all the stars who looked up to jones all their lives. you could tell it wasn't a place to plug a song or appearance; about everyone was visibly moved to be a part of it. i think the most moving performance came from vince gill and patty loveless for gill's song, go rest high on that mountain. it's probably the song he's known for and was beautifully done. and alan jackson did he stopped loving her today at the end. there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
