Never liked you since you accused me of returning an empty "Willard" case. Posted on this board that my next visit to a Blockbuster would be "with a gas can in the middle of the night." Turns out you were probably right. And now it's too late for me to make it up to you. Sorry.

Any happy memories I have of renting from there (and there are a few) are outweighed by the fact they drove out all the good little shops in my area that carried every little piece of VHS crap that came down the pike. Not only was their selection milquetoast, but they censored their titles in many cases, too. Their victory with me was short lived. My local mega movie palace hung in there well after Blockbuster had driven out all the rest, and their deathblow came from Netflix. By that time, I'd started getting my flix in the mail, too, and I haven't set foot in a Blockbuster in over a decade.
Good riddance.

a friend of mine once told me they were one of the worst companies to work for. the one in my town closed down a couple of years ago, i think. i had a membership but rarely went. one of my favorite jobs was working for a little family owned video store at the beach back in '95. they had a lot of obscure stuff and older movies that were hard to find. but blockbuster eventually ran them out of business.
badass, sky.

There used to be 3 Blockbuster stores near me. All of them went out at least 4 years ago. I had no idea that there were any of them left. I knew they had online rentals, but really I've been using Redbox for some time. Can't beat the price of $1.20 a day for rental. And you can return them to ANY Redbox location, not just the one you got the movies from.

DISH owns them now and has for a year or so. I expect the axe was ready to fall from day one of the sale.

I'm sorry my son didn't put Willard in the case. I really am. They might have made it if we didn't stiff them.

I'm sorry my son didn't put Willard in the case. I really am. They might have made it if we didn't stiff them. Actually we should thank you for that. Blockbusters was the only video store that made searching for movies a bore. The atmosphere was like walking into a library, but one devoid of any classics or quality or fun. I had more fun looking for movies in WalMart & Target. At least if they carried bad films the customers could make your day.

Was it the original Willard or was it the Crispin Glover remake?

Was it the original Willard or was it the Crispin Glover remake? Adding insult to injury... the Crispin Glover remake.

Was it the original Willard or was it the Crispin Glover remake? Adding insult to injury... the Crispin Glover remake. Well at least you admitted it. It's the mature thing to do. Just like the kid in this ad. I am serious you don't get more 90s then this.

Thank you but I have just a modicum of dignity and refuse to click on that. In the '80s my sister and her then husband thought about buying a local video store. Luckily they didn't because shortly after that a Blockbuster opened in the strip mall and drove the mom & pop store out of business. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Please be kind and rewind.

I am happy to say that I never became a Blockbuster member. I liked the Mom & Pop stores better back in the day. I walked into one once and did not care for the selection plus they were going out of their way to let everyone know that The Last Action Hero was coming soon. Ugh..
