I'm curious what level of participation there's going to be from the Rifftrax side vs the Cinematic Titanic side. If you didn't know, RiffTrax has started selling MST3K eps on their site, with new intros by Mike, and they've officially stated that they get profits from those eps. My theory was and now definitely is that this was part of a mending of the bridges in preparation for this new reboot. RiffTrax is doing just fine and obviously they'll keep doing their own thing, but I can definitely see cameos from Mike, Brain Guy and Bobo, possibly jokes about old Tom and Crow voices, etc.

I'm really hoping we get some continuity with the finale. I know that between the CC finale and the Sci-Fi premiere they gave us a narrative reason for the changes. It would be fun to learn that the new Mad kidnapped Tom and Crow from the small apartment they share with Mike.
Given Gypsy is the owner of a major corporation, is it possible she will not appear in the new series?

Put up my $200 pledge.
And if the Jonah Ray rumor is legit, he would be a PERFECT new host. Had the privilege to see him host The Meltdown last time I was in L.A., and always enjoy his work on @midnight.

So, I'm following along discussion on mst3kinfo.com as well, and it looks like Mike has weighed in of Facebook saying he is 'not involved at all' with the reboot. Another poster said (but I didn't verify) that Trace and Frank have posted that they are also not involved.
I'm starting to get a little bummed.

It's been over 15 years since Mike has been involved in MST (I doubt he'd be involved with a project that competed with Rifftrax anyway), and even longer for Trace and Frank, who both decided to move on from the project before it was even finished. It's Joel's baby and if he has support in the project, that's something we should have optimism in. Kind of like Gene Roddenberry being the only real connection between Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation. There was no Kirk or Spock, but it didn't really matter in the end. It stood on it's own two legs and stood proudly.

I thought for sure they would be involved, along with Josh and Mary Jo, in the very least as cameos and such.

I remember that one of the reasons Cinematic Titanic broke up was because they all had separate projects to work on, which made getting together more difficult. But it's really unfair to both them and the potential reboot to just assume these old names will be involved. Cameos might be a possibility. Frank and Joel both came back for Soultaker, mind you, but they couldn't make their involvement last longer than a few scenes.. It depends on schedules and whether they can make it work.

I'd be fine with cameos. I never thought any of them (maybe not even Joel) would be in the writers' room. Honestly, I'm not really sure I would want them in there. I'm all for new comedy from new minds. My best case hope, is that we get some recurring cameos in various host segments.

The page is up. It's official. There is a kick starter campaign to bring back MST3k.
I wonder what roll Jim has in this? He partly owned the rights to MST3k and he owns MST3k.com.

I find that a bit concerning. When MST3K was being sold to HBO for the Comedy Channel, BBI made it a point to maintain the rights, so they could remain independent and in the hands of the writers/performers.

From Joel's Reddit AMA:
Sounds all-but-official that Jonah Ray is the new host.

I liked that they kept the rights "in the famiky" in a way. I'm also concerned that no other original cast members have said they're involved. But I still donated 10 dollars to the kickstarter. Hoping it goes well!

Apparently Joel wants the new host to do 100 episodes, then have another host do 100 more episodes. Somehow 200 more episodes seems a bit ambitious to me.
