Has science finally caught up to the point where one actually could create a sophisticated robot pal with sophisticated enough AI that it could riff on a movie?
Specifically, could science recreate Servo and Crow into working, riffing robots?
Things to consider:
Stephen Hawking has come out against further developments in Artificial Intelligence, stating that it could become so powerful that it would end mankind. Could it also put comedians out of work?
Building a robot that can respond to MOVIE SIGN and enter and exit the theater shouldn't be a challenge.
Servo's ability to get in and out of the theater needs to be developed to the point where he CAN get in and out of his seat, just not easily, and programmed to prefer human assistance. Also, neither robots require working arms.
Tom and Servo would have to be programmed with a database of cultural references that, ideally, would grow as long as there was popular culture to be consumed. They'd need to have the ability to look at a human face and quickly come up with a celebrity that it, at least at a glance, resembles, and discern which celebrity or public figure would be the most humorous and closest to the intelligence and reference level of the show's normal standards.
A voice function would be built similar to Roger Ebert's speaking aid in his final days. There should hopefully be enough recordings of Trace and Bill and Josh and Kevin to construct something like this for the bots. Imagine having the ability to switch their voices at will.
And if not, do you think science could, at the very least, create Beeper?

Bump.
Sophia the robot has been given citizenship status by Saudi Arabia. Edit: I was thinking, and someone posted a comment on the video the same thought, that Saudis have a higher regard for robot women than real women.
There are many more videos on Youtube that strictly focus on Sophia. Pretty freaky.

Servo is problematic alone, as he'd need to hover.
