No, there is no fold out of Torgo's exposed thighs. But there IS an article on Manos in Playboy! The article covers the movie's inception, MST3K, Rifftrax, and the bizarre legal "complications" between the Warren family, a pretend Torgo, and Manos HD. What I found especially bizarre was Rupert Munch, who comes off as the heir apparent to the Manos franchise. The guy strong armed Rifftrax to giving he and his sequel airtime, in exchange for showing Manos (which nobody actually owns, but Rifftrax seemed to want to play it safe). He also had all these strange plans for the film, as laid out in the comments section of a MST3KINFO article: www.mst3kinfo.com/?p=11393Just read through the comments, the guy seemed to be all talk and no talent. Wanting to release a new version of the movie on blu-ray (competing with Manos the Restoration) and wanted to present multiple cuts of the film. Even weirder, he equated backing the Manos restoration project with being a business parter with clout, and what really rubbed me the wrong way was that be kept calling the Manos HD guy Ben a "kid" despite him being 30 and thought that Ben was being greedy because he wasn't giving money to every surviving member of the original film. Rupert claims he would do it, though his sequel has never seen release and his remasters seemed to be nothing more than ideas in his head (I doubt the guy had film restoration knowledge). In any case, the Manos saga just got a whole lot more interesting! www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1052232238150236.1073741830.267785723261562&type=3

With only the article to go by, Joe Warren's concern for his father's legacy seems to only have sprung up two decades after MST dug it up. (Now that there's a buck to be made.) The master's robe and portrait would probably fetch a bundle if they were ever auctioned. It would be nice if Jackey and her father got them back. And I find it hilarious the film survived the Northridge quake. (Which I also fortunately survived without injury.) It's a sign!

I was one of the original Blu-ray backers. I'm excited to see Manos finally released in all its glory.

Good article. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing ineptitude at its finest resolution. I'm not sure why Atomic Brain needs a restoration though. I got the Katzman collection a couple of years back and it had a pretty darn good print of that movie.

My copy of the movie arrived yesterday and it does indeed look spectacular. Well... as spectacular as it can. The colors are great, and the movie still retains just enough of its creepy edge despite being all cleaned up and crisp and clear. The bonus features are excellent. Those who buy MST3K DVDs and love the Ballyhoo stuff need this release. It's a great accompaniment to the Shout! MST3K Manos DVD. Basically the best possible un-riffed version as well as the Ballyhoo docs the Shout DVD desperately needed.

I suppose everyone's heard that Playboy is eliminating nude photos to become a more mainstream mag/website. You know what that means: it's gonna be all Manos coverage, all the time from now on!

I ended up getting the Blu Ray, which means I now own 5 copies of Manos (the original Rhino release, the Essentials release, the Shout Factory release, the Rifftrax Live release, and the Blu Ray).
Owning 5 copies of Manos...I may have to reevaluate the life choices that have led me to this...
