We all know there were certain moments in the MST3K movies that were cut for being a tad too violent or explicit. But I must know: what do you consider the most gruesome moments in a MST3K movie that were left in? Does anything stand out as being particularly harsh or even hard-to-watch?

One scene that always grosses me out is when Jonathan pierces Madeline's arm with a needle to obtain her blood. I can never watch that scene without putting my hand over my mouth or cringing.

The Incredible Melting Man. The reveal of his face, the nurse with half a skull missing, the fisherman's head taking a trip downriver and smashing on the rocks, the General getting a strip torn off his face...yeah, I'm amazed that one was ever considered suitable for the show. A funny episode, but an uncomfortable watch.

Conrad Janis's skull hitting the rocks in Incredible Melting Man.

Definitely Melting Man. I don't like gory movies, and that's why I have only watched this one twice. I watched it at the premier, was horrified, and didn't watch it again and taped over it. I got another copy in a trade years later just to have it, watched it again to see if my opinion had changed, and it hadn't. If and when it comes out in a collection I will buy it, but will probably never watch it again.

Thanks for the replies! Those of you who said Incredible Melting Man: Can you think of any other moments from different episodes that come within spitting distance?

That moment in Cave Dwellers where a caveman guy eats a human heart is kinda gross. That's all I can think of right now.

There was also the surgery scene in "The Castle of Fu Manchu", and I haven't watched it for a long time but I believe there were some human torches in "City on Fire" that got a little graphic.

also why did they do Melting Man anyway? seems out of place for the show. Because of Doctor Ted Nelson, hotchka!, crackers, and the muppet grandparents.

I'm going to go with practically any scene with the titular Melting Man. I can only get through that one the same way I get through the Mr. Creosote sketch: with my eyes tightly closed.
There are other movies that feature unpleasant or borderline offensive material, but there aren't too many that go into actual "gruesome" territory, thank Heavens.

Don't understand why anyone would say Melting Man is a weird choice for the show when we're talking about a movie who has a slow motion shot of a nurse running through a hallway and crashing through a window. That whole scene merits any movie for an MST treatment.

I think they wanted Melting Man for how goofy it is. The nurse crashing through the window, the weird music cues, the annoying kids, the monster being scooped up at the end, HOTCHKA!, the anorexic wife, etc. The gruesome special effects were a necessary evil for the other stuff. And they cut out quite a bit more, so be thankful for that.
