Any opinions on this one?
Please be a little more detailed than Bush is Bad/Good, please give reasons why you feel the way you do re: the Patriot Act.
If we're going to discuss politics, perhaps we should be a little more specific than we've been...

The Patriot Act (and it's partner the Victory Act) is the downfall of America. I've read it, and it basically destroys the Constitution. Remember Hitler's regime? Well, it gives the President and his fellow leaders more power than THAT.

I'm not familiar enough with the Patriot Act to comment on it.
But I do think Bush (and/or Kerry, should he win) are in quite the Catch-22 with homeland security.
If they crack down on potential terrorism on American soil, they're criticized for invading our freedom. But if something happens here like what happened in Madrid, they'll get hammered for not being prepared enough.
Bush is getting slammed for not doing more to prevent the WTC attacks, but he's also getting slammed for invading our freedom. Often by the same people. #nosmileys

Yes, I support him, but not the Patriot Act. I do believe the two are intertwined.

Well, it gives the President and his fellow leaders more power than THAT. Well, what's wrong with that? From what I've seen, the president and his immediate subordinates are thoughtful, articulate men who would never overstep their powers, or allow party lines to shape their decisions..... Seriously, people, if we can't trust a democratically elected president and his cabinet, who can we trust? I say close your eyes, let 'em make the Patriot Act permanent and just see how much safer we are as a nation. I mean, if you've got nothing to hide, why would you oppose such a harbinger of justice? Right? Oh and one more thing.....just in case you weren't sure... I am being sarcastic.

Why the curse is it called the Patriot act? It has nothing to do with patriotism at all. I really don't see what the big deal is here. We will give up some civil liberties, but I doubt the CIA will come into any of our houses. But then again, I have a headache. I cannot grasp information correctly. I shall state my opinion in a less headache-y time.

Why the curse is it called the Patriot act? It has nothing to do with patriotism at all. The name Patriot Act is intended to make anyone opposed to it seem unpatriotic. Simple salesmanship. If they called it the loss of civil liberties act it would be a harder sell.
