Too much time has passed for it to retain a lot of the charm of the original.
Expect it to be different, because it will be.

It's gonna be different, but the alternative of just imitating how the original series was done could be disastrous. It was done that way because they were a particular group of people working in a particular enviroment and it ended up the way it did because of necessity, and trying to replicate the process exactly could come across as an artificial; going through the motions.

You sum up my feelings about RiffTrax PERFECTLY! And I agree the show should have some room to breathe... I have a feeling the final effort will be a lot more "slick/modern" than we're used to with MST3k. I hope that if we complain, Joel or someone else involved will listen. Not complain, "voice our opinions". Sounds more constructive that way. That is, though, another issue with doing a queued up all-at-once shoot. How can you do any tweaking based on viewer feedback?

Given that there's a good chance that all the episodes will be dropped at once (especially if they settle on an online platform, I doubt that will happen. I'd argue that the new cast and crew have an advantage over the original Brains since they have ten seasons (plus KTMA) to observe what worked and what didn't.

I think it's best to took at it as the original show is the base for it.....and it will evolve more as it goes along, just like the old episodes did.

Given that there's a good chance that all the episodes will be dropped at once (especially if they settle on an online platform, I doubt that will happen. This is getting a little off topic, but I can't STAND this new "TV" format of just posting a whole season at once. That's not how TV is watched. And, don't give me no crap about being old-fashioned, off-my-lawn ish, it's the format itself--it's an episodic, serial format. It is meant to be watched in little chunks over a bit of time, like I dunno, once a week give or take. I know a lot of people too that sit down and watch the whole season when it is "dropped" onto NetFlix or wherever, and I think that just sounds dumb? sad? not fun? Whatever, I have no interest in doing it. If I actually like a show, I want to watch it a little at a time, and enjoy each one, and then look forward to watching the next one in a few days, weeks, whatever. It might not be up to Joel, but I don't think that's the way he intends to do it. I know I am happy that he's not announcing the names of the movies beforehand, but what's the point if they are just all announced at the same time when all 14 eps are put out in one lump sum? I really feel, (real world constraints and logistics aside) that this is not some ongoing story that is just shot all at once and then spliced into episodes, and that in the end, it is going to suffer in feel, and probably quality, by being produced this way. Again, though, in the off-topic category, I kind of feel this way about where a lot of "TV" is heading these days.

That makes sense, but I don't think it works out when you look at the details--It's new, but not really, it's building on the 10+ year show. And, it's definitely not shoe-string budget--they raised over 6 MILLION DOLLARS!! And, going by even the little info Joel has given us they are pre-producing the HELL out of it--story boards, prototypes, Joel has an entire "Fablab workshop" staffed with little helpers for godsakes. If anything, I would say it's being OVERproduced*. *Which, I don't really mind. To me, regardless of the outcome of this, I think Joel deserves it. And I'm glad he's finally getting more MST3K in his life, and in his way, and hopefully in a fun way.

Again, though, in the off-topic category, I kind of feel this way about where a lot of "TV" is heading these days. It's up to you on how you rather watch TV, but it must be pointed out that Netflix and other online venues are not television stations and are not bound by the way television is watched in the past. In the case of Netflix, a lot of their most successful streaming services were of posting entire seasons of past television shows at once. When they started creating their own shows, they decided it was in their best interests to cater to the "binge-watch" that made them so popular, and it in turn made them even more popular. However people don't have to watch them all at once. I know plenty of people who only watch one episode a day or even one episode a week because they prefer the old television method. Is it "not how TV is watched?" Since DVD brought us seasonal sets of television shows, in addition to DVR, the way television is watched has changed drastically. It's now up to the viewer on how they prefer to watch TV. It's evolving. I can take or leave it personally. There are a few shows on Netflix I watch, but most of what I do watch is still on network. I think streaming services still need to evolve further into something more convenient than to pay for forty different websites so I can watch what shows/movies I want, which is why I still prefer network and blu-ray/DVD for the time being.

For me I can't say it fusses me too much if we get the whole season all at once, but at the same time I wasn't fortunate enough to discover the show back when it was on air. So being a late comer to the fandom it would kinda me the same for me as it's always been.

I think everyone can agree on that. I know a lot of people that brag about being 'cord cutter,' but I kind of wonder how much you would have to pay to watch most of the new and popular shows that are out now. (legally that is, and not through torrents and such) We only have NetFlix, and that was mainly to watch Fringe (we never watched it originally). When we're through with it (we watch one every week or so), who knows if we'll keep it. The kids watch cartoons on there, but the choices are pretty sparse.
