Okay, so, amid all the hectic things that've happened in my life in the last month, one of the nicer ones was finally getting a Smart Phone. Ignoring the obvious benefits to such a thing, I'm happy to say that I finally have a chance to play the sequel to Plants Vs. Zombies.
So far I really like it. Yes, it's got a number of the cash-grabby elements of other free to play games, but I don't actually have to pay a thing to play it. Sure, I've got the option to drop some cash to unlock all the game worlds, but I could also just unlock them one at a time by playing through the game's story regularly.
I *don't* like that some of my favorite plants from the first game appear to be things you can only access by paying actual money. A few plants can be acquired with diamonds that drop regularly in the game (I've recently purchased a Lava Guava because it didn't look like I'd be able to unlock it through regular gameplay), but most of my big favorites from the previous game are, alas, not going to be in my arsenal this time around.
I have mixed feelings about how many things seem to be shout-outs or references to the first game. They're fun, but don't make a lot of sense. Why would an ancient sarcophagus have Crazy Dave's face on it? Are we going to discover more time shenanigans that made him a ruler of ancient Egypt and... well, I suppose the story could still go in that direction. Hmm...
All in all, though, I'm loving it. Anyone else played this game back when it came out? Or, like me, getting into the game way late?
