As I said in the subject line: can a Pokeball catch a Hobgoblin?
Honestly, the distinction of what a Pokemon can, and cannot, be classified as has always eluded me. Is any animal a Pokemon? All the world's animals seem to be replaced with Pokemon in this game/anime/whatever world's lore. So if an alien crash-landed or a mutant lurched out of the sewer or if a Hobgoblin escaped from a vault, can the Pokeball get it?
And if so, that raises another terrifying question: what are the limits of the manic desire to catch 'em all? Will any trainere with such a goal ever truly be sated? Will they eventually leave a barren, empty world void of all sentient life, finishing by picking up a pokeball, removing the stylistic hat, tossing it into the air, letting it bounce off their head, and then, finally, catch him or herself as the final act, a tear rolling down the cheek as it happens...? Or is it more of a "It's not the destination, it's the journey" thing?
And is that kid's name Ash or Red, or are those two people different people? And are either one of them the same as the Pokemon Trainer from Smash Bros? And could the answer about catching Hobgoblins change depending on which kid it is, or do we assume consistent rules across all interpretations of the franchise?
And what the heck are Pokebots? Scratch that... I don't want to know what they are. I just want to know why.
...In other news, my Pokemon Go! playing is going pretty well.

I believe that, with Hobgoblins, you need to befriend them and they will reward you with their medal that you can use to summon them. "Come on out, my friend! Hobgoblin Medal, do your thing!!"
I would have preferred a system where there are eight Hobgoblins and that you need to defeat all of them. After defeating a Hobgoblin, you absorb its essence and get a new weapon that you can use against the other Hobgoblins, such as the Opa Grenade.
