Let's talk about the fourth episode!

Better! A lot better! The sketches are developed and have time to breath (exposition! Names for things! Mild explanation!), the movie is "mostly" intact, the riffing has slowed down JUST slightly (which is good). Pre-riffing is still an issue on and off throughout the episode.
I'm not big on the song in the middle of the episode, but its nerd bait, so it'll serve its purpose and go over real big. The last sketch with Gypsy feels like an sketch from the old show...if not for the fact that the Gypsy puppet's mouth just doesn't work for crap.
There's a line of dialogue from Servo late in the episode that implies he's giving the actors a nudge, but the puppet remains still. I'm assuming he was supposed to be flying, but they didn't do it and forgot to edit it out. The rest of his flying bits are generally clunkers this episode.
A better episode. Best so far, I think. The longer length seems to help, I think.

Yeah, this one I think had some really good riffs. Without spoiling anything, that last TripAdvisor review gave me my first belly laugh of the season.

This might be it for me for a few days, but I think this was my favorite so far. Though bizarrely, I thought it was a lot funnier during the endless pre-avalanche padding.
The "collateral damage" scene is definitely the "funniest MST movie scene without any riffing" of the first 4 episodes, edging out the random tiger appearance in 1102. The riff about people cutting their fingers on newspapers reading about it was icing on the cake.
And I just now looked it up--I thought they were just calling back, but that really WAS Danny from Time Travelers.

I absolutely adored the segment making fun of the endless self-aware b-movies like Sharktopus/Lavalantula,etc. Gonna have to go through and read the whole list of titles. Between that and Gypsy's musical number, things are really feeling like classic MST3k.

Goddamn that was a great episode! And I'm not just saying that because they finally gave me my onscreen credit! Last episode was the 200th, but this was the best one yet!
Riffing was hysterical from beginning to end. The host segments were pretty brilliant, and it even had a great Invention Exchange to boot (despite those bubbles being back). Musical numbers were outstanding (Felicia always shines when she sings, along with her Dr. Horrible costar too!), and the phoney monster movie name mashup list was a scream!
Downside: the movie was a bit of a downer, but overall this was top notch stuff.

Movie didn't disappoint. The riff about "Hot Chocolate Beer" probably gave me my longest, sustained laugh of the season so far.
Also, whoever is choosing stingers for these eps. is nailing it. 4-for-4 so far.

Now this episode.....this episode was GREAT! Yeah the invention exchange was kinda lame but the rest of the episode was in top form. While the first 3 episodes were decent, this one felt like a full blown return to form. It is also nice to see MST3K tackling some of those 70's disaster movies, there are worse ones then this believe it or not. All in all a really top notch episode and one that makes me all the more glad that MST2K is back!

A riff in this one prompted me to come back to the proboards. The stupid, sexy proboards.

If there are more episodes upto the standards of this one, I'll be very happy indeed! I remain only watching just 1 episode per-day, but this one I'd making it hard not to binge watch more right now! If this episode representative of the standard I can expect from the show, then MST3K's future will be a bright one indeed!

Having watched the rest of the season...not so much, no. 1105 is just as good/better. 1110/1111 are very good also. But nothing else really compares to these 4 episodes, unfortunately.

Any chance that maybe you're just undergoing new episode fatigue? I'm not much of a binge watcher as it is, but I couldn't imagine knocking out 14 of these in the span of 3 days and having the tail end be remotely enjoyable.

If I watch the season over the span of 3 weeks, that's even faster than I'd like but that seems to be the pace that I'm going. Was hoping for 4-5 weeks personally.

Torgo suggested I jump ahead to this one, and I'm happy I listened to him because this, this was funny. Barrel laughs funny. Despite some comments I've read, my problem wasn't that I expected this show and the people to be EXACTLY the same. But they are calling it MST3K. So I did expect a nice mix of clever quips that made me laugh... a lot. And I did expect the riffers to have distinct personalities. This ep achieved that for the most part (voices are still similar - too many tenor's, we need a baritone in the mix which was usually Servo's vocal range) Reptilicus became one of my new least favorite MST episodes (from season 2 on) Avalanche is now one of the new highlights. And all the angry, yelling movie characters added to my fun (reminded me of the angry psychic in Merlin)
