Speaking of chickens......out of curiosity and simply having nothing better to do, I just checked the members list. There are 98 pages. The first 41 pages are taken up with people who HAVE NEVER POSTED A SINGLE THING!!!!

Well, the main reason I keep my mouth shut is, remarkably, there are a lot of MST3K episodes I still haven't seen yet. I have a ton thanks to Rhino and Shout (yes, I have both versions of Vol. 10, but not 8 and 9 ), but my obsessive need to go in order and not having a lot of time keeps me from doing as much as I would like. Currently working through Season 3, awaiting the arrival of Vol. 36 from Shout so I may resume after Gamera vs. Baragun. Why don't you watch some episodes online that aren't on DVD yet? Hard to find them, especially the Godzillas. But Vol. 36 arrived, so Season 3 is my oyster, plus Season 11.

God, does anyone remember me? I barely remember me. You're one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are you not? I dabble. I was googling for info on Shout Factory's Gamera box set and this board popped up. I thought I'd stop by and see if there were any signs of life. Anything happen over the past eight years? Feel free to recount literally every single thing that happened.

Something about the show coming back. Wasn't paying attention.
That's about it.

Oh yeah? Those crazy kids finally did it, huh? Good for them.
In all seriousness, though, what's the state of the fandom around here? Are folks into the new season? Does the board still get much activity? Personally, I wasn't all that into the new season. (Great movie selection, poor line delivery. Good try, though.) It did, however, inspire me to get a bit more active in the fandom. I'm even thinking of firing up my ol' fansite again. MST3K still feels like home to me.

I can't speak for everyone, especially since reactions have been mostly all over the map. I'd say we leaned into the "good, but with issues" category. There are people who detested it, some who loved it, but most reactions seemed to enjoy it while conceding that there are things that could be fixed.
I thought it was fun. There were a handful of mediocre ones, especially later in the season, but it was worth it for Avalanche and Wizards of the Lost Kingdom. Neither breaks my top ten, but I'd hold those up with some classics I could name. But I considered the effort well worth it when the Kickstarter unearthed two of the lost KTMAs, so it's all good.

Some stuff that rubbed me the absolute wrong way. Some stuff that was ok. 2-3 good episodes. 2-3 really bad episodes. The rest firmly in the mediocre range. Look through the individual episode threads on the Relaunch board for a better idea. Fan reaction depends on where you look. On Reddit and the Facebook, anything less than absolute fawning praise is mercilessly attacked (when people put money into something, they become emotionally invested). Here on the board, its been a bit more measured.

It was a nice fresh start. Granted, some things bugged me a little like the cold openings feeling a little forced, the new voices for the characters (sans Crow), and some running gags like Servo flying in the theater. Otherwise, it was definitely a nice reboot for me.
If people don't like the reboot, that's their problem. Some just feel like they're so deserving of EVERYTHING that they'll attack the crew to get their way. I've seen it happen with numerous shows.

"Good, but with issues," sounds like the most fair assessment of the new season. For me, the primary issues were their line deliveries in the theater. They were way too rapid-fire at times, and both Baron and Jonah had trouble nailing the delivery of the jokes. Hampton was, I thought, a great (but not Trace-great) Crow. Also, the new Mads were unremarkable, and I don't like Paul and Storm, so having them write all (most?) of the songs really bummed me out. But, like I said, the movie selection was near-perfect. Cry Wilderness and Carnival Magic were heaven-sent. Hopefully, they'll get a season 12 and will be able to iron out some of the kinks. And, fingers crossed, maybe hell will freeze over and they'll add Trace and Frank to the writing team.
Anyway, sorry for derailing the thread.

In the comments of that Youtube video is a mention of a "Cloud in the Sky" CD. Say WHAAAT? Yep! It's a nice album. In fact, there's two of them. The first is sort of a general collection of ditties from the show's first six or seven seasons, and then volume 2 is a collection of some music from seasons 8 and 9. I used to play them a lot on my old radio show ("Where Oh Werewolf" was always a handy track around Halloween time.)

Anyway, sorry for derailing the thread. No excuses. You are hereby banished. Begone, and do not return for another eight years.

God, does anyone remember me? I barely remember me. Hugh? Hugh...Beaumont? Ho ho ho! Why you old so-and-so! Has it really been 20 years? Seems like only yesterday we were running around the halls of this high school together. Look at us now, huh? Remember that time in shop class when you...HAHAHA! I can't believe we got away with that. Man, it's so good to see you. Let's make sure to exchange info before the night's over, alright? *walks away mumbling to no one in particular* Wow. Hugh Beaumont. Never thought I'd see the day. He really let himself go...

Fun fact-- this is the first Internet Forum I ever joined. The show had just been canceled not too many years earlier and I had just found DAP and had started watching some of the early episodes, including KTMA which I really liked a lot even to this day. That's been over 13 years ago now!! As others have said, it's hard to post new thoughts on a show, even if it's your favorite, for a decade. I do still watch an ep at least every few weeks. And of course I watch all it's children -- RiffTrax, Cinematic Titanic, ICWXP, QuipTrax, ect. BUT, here's something really cool--between then and now I had two kids, and now they're 11 and 9 and I've watched a bunch of MST3K with them--mostly the Gamera's and Godzilla's, but lately we've been breaking into some of the 50s sci fi, and more of the Sandy Frank's. I can't tell you how fun it is to watch them laughing at what SAMPO could be or singing "They TRIED to kill him with a forklift!!" And just recently they've started putting their legs up on everything. And of course, now I'm back for the new season, which I think Torgo very judiciously and accurately described. I am TOTALLY in the camp that the new age internet interactions stink AND that NetFlix stoopid season dropping and binge watching really stink and it sucks that so many people have already watched the WHOLE new season. I just watched Avalanche a few weeks ago and loved it. I'm in the middle of Beast of Hollow mountain now, and it's okay. The name I remember the most is Phantom Engineer, but then he hardly posted in the main forum even back in the mid aughts. I think he still posts a lot now, just not in the main forums. I also remember some Monster somebody who got all on my case once because I said I liked ICWXP a lot and refused to acknowledge that they 'ripped off' the MST3K format and should be shunned, like almost all entertainment isn't about copying and reformatting and evolving.

Phantom Engineer? Yeah, I remember that episode. 50s sci fi, planet's really small, gotta engineer a way to end the war between two alien groups. Girl who's hair controls the lights. That Phantom Engineer? But it's great your kids are loving it. I'm a fan of the new season and have been watching it verrry slowly because, frankly, I wanna savor it.
